Blunderbuss?

Even my 1897 isnt a blunderbuss.
It is a modern bolt action rifle.

Buy a Finn M39, which is a MN receiver with a better barrel, stock and sights, and you get all of the MN’s goddness plus accuracy. The Russkies found out about Finn accuracy in the Winter War, gaining about enough territory to bury those that the Finns killed.

Never understood the charm of these things. Commie guns (especially the pistols) are bad karma.

Granted, neck hair is easier to clean off the muzzle than cosmoline.

I venture to say that I'm as much as a gun nut as anyone else reading here but it's beyond me why anyone bothers to buy or collect these guns that will not hold a candle to any American made Remington, Winchester etc. etc. (helmet is on, go for it)

In a recent GUNS magazine article, outstanding examples of the Mosin-Nagant, Springfield, Enfield and Mauser were exhaustively tested for accuracy with the best ammo available. The Nagant stunned the testers by outshooting the other rifles. I think they shot something like 20” groups at 1,000 yards. The Mosins outshot the others at all ranges, the 1,000 yard test was a lark. The testers were all very surprised that the Mosins outshot the other rifles.

So for the money, how can you go wrong, if you get a decent rifle?

My only real complaints are the sticky bolt which can be fixed by running a brass .45 brush on a drill motor up the chamber, and the kick.
I like a rifle that kicks, but it will beat you up.

Heck 8mm mausers have a slick bolt but they will beat you half to death.

Many Missouri hunting comrades show up empty handed at sunset... sitting in tree stand all day with fancy American-made rifle & scope... expensive ammo.

DTogo walks and shoots deer with $100 1938 Tula, iron sights, and "soft tab" Czech 54R.

Thanks for posting this article.

Your timing couldn't have been better.

My sons and I went to our first gun show last weekend and we bought one for $100. It is in very good condition and the numbers match. It also has a hex chamber. (whatever that means)

We cleaned it up a little bit and I have been reading up on it and it has a wonderful history.

I found a comparison site that is hilarious.

I am looking for a cleaning kit to finish the job now and some ammo to work with my sons target practice.

I would love to get more information on this rifle if anybody wold like to post some links where I could get cheap ammo, instructions on care and feeding of this new and very interesting weapon.
