I venture to say that I'm as much as a gun nut as anyone else reading here but it's beyond me why anyone bothers to buy or collect these guns that will not hold a candle to any American made Remington, Winchester etc. etc. (helmet is on, go for it)

A lot of it is history.
Mine started life in Sestroretsk Russia under the rule of Czar Peter the The Great, it went through the russian revolution, WW1 and The Winter War, where it was captured by the Finns and rearsonaled.

I collect the M39’s and they’re the best of the series by far. As to why you’d get one...
300 yards, unscoped, 12 in metal target, 50 year old surplus combloc ammo...hit it 5 out of 5 all day long. More energy at 500 yards than a .45 point blank.
Plus, they’re like doritos...you can’t have just one... :-)

They’re cheap. Their ammo is cheap. Their ammo isn’t intended for shooting only things smaller than a poodle. The rifles are as durable as the Rock of Gibraltar, and about as simple as a rock to clean and repair.
While they’re as ugly as a witch who chased parked cars as a little girl, they *work*.
Did I mention that they were cheap?

As I said my M91 was made in 1915 by New England Westinghouse Company.
So it’s as American as your Remington or Winchester.
