Dear FReepers,

Most of you know from experience that re-reading God's Word frequently causes us to reevaluate our lives out of a new, or fresh revelation we get from the scriptures. We are tempted to look for prophetic interpretations that don't become relevent until such a time as God decides that they should become known to us. Earlier today, I was reading an FR post about Matthew 24. It's the great warning chapter, which outlines what we are to watch out for at the beginning of the Last Days. It talks about wars, earthquakes and false messians; nothing new here folks. Of course, we have just finished the 20th Centuary the most war plagued time in man's history, so rumors of wars is nothing new. However, what really stimulates the thinking mind these days is the recent disasterous earthquakes in Japan, Indonesia, Haiti and Chile.

Hey Palmer,

Look at the last 3 years 2008,2009 and 2010, things have obviously accelerated. The USGS admitted as much last year after Chile & Haiti. Death tolls are off the regular top.

This table shows that a magnitude 7.2 earthquake produces 10 times more ground motion than a magnitude 6.2 earthquake, but it releases about 32 times more energy. The USGS estimates that several million earthquakes occur in the world each year. Many go undetected because they hit remote areas or have very small magnitudes. The NEIC now locates about 50 earthquakes each day, or about 20,000 a year.

As more and more seismographs are installed in the world, more earthquakes can be and have been located. However, the number of large earthquakes (magnitude 6.0 and greater) has stayed relatively constant until 2008. Earthquakes really are on the increase since 2008!

My favorite and most relied on translation is the King James Version of 1611. My second most used translation is the new King James however that version is based upon newer sources than the 1611 version..

I also have a copy of the New Testament in 26 translations.

I do not like or approve of the Amplified version as it tends to add confusion with it's multiple attempts to explain each verse.

The interpretation of the verses comes from a Jewish orthodox source. I wouldn't expect anyone to see it in a Christian source unless that Christian source was also an outreach to the Jewish community at large and especially the Messianic Jewish groups.

As for myself, I am independent fundamental Christian who at various times was a member in Baptist, nondenominational Christian, Assembly of God and other related denominational and nondenominational groups.

I have a very sound Christian background and have taken several courses at various bible schools. My closest friends are among Christian pastors, Evangelists, and some highly prophetic friends.

I do not claim to be prophetic or charismatic myself is so far as to a calling or ministry is concerned even though I have experienced a few strong charismatic experiences in my life.

I served in the U.S. Army bands from 1964 to 1967 and after completing my army service got involved in the mainframe computer field. I have over 35 years computer related and programming experience and I own my own consulting company.

I have been ‘retired’ due to injury since Dec 2000 and I last held the title of Systems Engineer. I build my own computers.

I have always had a strong interest in computers and other electronics But still was able to serve in various youth related counseling/teaching positions in my local churches that I have attended.

I am simply a fellow Christian desiring to learn all I can about the Lord but especially to build and experience a close walk with Him and the Father.

At this time in my life where I no longer have to struggle to earn a living, I am free to pursue after the Lord with a lot of free time.

The congregation I worship with is a Messianic group, made up of a mix multitude of Jews and Gentiles. I have been studying the scriptures from the Hebraic perspective for several years and would like to review the source you mentioned. It may be a good resource to add to my library.

Question - If I predict an earthquake in a major earthquake prone area, being vague about where (somewhere in the Pacific Rim area, maybe Japan) and say it will happen “in the not too distant future” - and 20 years later it happens, is that really prophetic?

Did you by any chance hear his passing reference about the realization that Japan will need a LOT of money to rebuild, and that since they have bought much of OUR debt, (please pardon my amateur fiscal explanation), that our economy would be seriously impacted if they called us on it?
