Twenty Most Overrated Films of All Time: Part 1
Big Hollywood ^ | 03.13.11

Posted on 03/13/2011 6:54:03 PM PDT by Perdogg

This year was actually a good year for movies, as I’ve written repeatedly. The King’s Speech was great; so was Toy Story 3; Inception may go down as one of the most creative films of all time. The Fighter was excellent as well.

Then there were the overrated films. Black Swan was atrociously awful, another Aronofsky masterpiece of self-aggrandizing bullcrap. The Kids Are All Right was a TV movie masquerading as a prestige film because it was about lesbians. True Grit was a remake.

“The FisherKing” sucked so bad my wife and I turned it off after 15 minutes.

I see I’m a little late and sorry but I didn’t read the entire thread.

But the first two to come to mind are...

Pearl Harbor
Sleeping in Seattle

Agree. Have watched it a few times. Would rather watch any old Star Trek episode.

A more fun list would be your favorite “Bad” movies of all-time. You know these movies are stupid, but somehow drag you in and you’ll watch them again with a chuckle.

My short list:

Big Trouble In Little China

Flash Gordon (1980 version with Max Von Sydow as Ming)

Soldier

Show Girls (so bad it’s good)

Almost any Chuck Norris movie

Uncommon Valor

Ice Pirates

I Come In Peace

Krull

Feel free to add...

I think my husband and I may have watched it for as long as 20 minutes. It really stank.

I’m really dating myself here but 2 of my all-time favorites are “The Enemy Below” and “Bad Day at Black Rock”.

Well, it’s kinda my rule. If a movie hasn’t been able to grab my interest in 30 minutes I’m way too busy (ha, ha) to give it any longer.

But a lot of people liked it, so I recommend you see for yourself.

Will Farrell! I still have nightmares about Elf. Gag. And they still inflict it on unsuspecting children every Christmas.

Jaws is a classic. The last time we went to Galveston, we had rented one of those beach homes that (alas) no longer exist and the owner left some DVD’s, including Jaws.

Of course, we watched it immediately. Big mistake. We should have watched it right before we left the beach.

“How Green Was My Valley” takes a great deal of sophistication to appreciate.

Much like the Three Stooges.

I wanted to see American Beauty so much I went to a theater a bit out of way to see it.

It was so excruciatingly annoying, I actually had to leave for a while and wander about the foyer and take deep breaths.

Re the Shawshank Redemption. It’s an excellent movie in terms of riveting and entertaining. I loved it when I first saw it.

And then when you actually think about it, you become disgusted with how you were so easily manipulated.

But on the scale of entertaining while you watch it the first time, not a bad movie.

I think ET definitely is the most overrated, I saw the knock-off “Mack and Me” before I saw ET. Mack and Me was a lousy movie, but it was a better story than ET.

Mack and Me

I guess I just couldn't appreciate ET since I wasn't 9 years old.
