Twenty Most Overrated Films of All Time: Part 1
Big Hollywood ^ | 03.13.11

Posted on 03/13/2011 6:54:03 PM PDT by Perdogg

This year was actually a good year for movies, as I’ve written repeatedly. The King’s Speech was great; so was Toy Story 3; Inception may go down as one of the most creative films of all time. The Fighter was excellent as well.

Then there were the overrated films. Black Swan was atrociously awful, another Aronofsky masterpiece of self-aggrandizing bullcrap. The Kids Are All Right was a TV movie masquerading as a prestige film because it was about lesbians. True Grit was a remake.

I love a good war movie, but I hated Deer Hunter and hated Apocalypse Now.

Sofia Coppola’s other film, “The Virgin Suicides”, which may end up her best effort as a director.

I have never been able to look at Kathleen Turner the same way after that film.

Apocalypse Now

Sure it had some good points and some memorable lines.

But again, the idea of a military officer being the leader of a cult in Cambodia that does nothing but dance around and kill people is just silly. Not to mention Marlon Brando just gives up and let’s himself be killed is also just dumb.

ET is also kind of boring

“OMG..Who disn’t like Scarlett Johansson in those panties?! If you didn’t then you’re gay”

Not gay,but female. Those panties just didn’t do it for me.

hated Apocalypse Now.

It's great for the 18 minute stretch where Robert Duvall leads the Air Cav attack on the village and then sends the guys out to surf.

I agree with all on this list but “American Graffiti”. Never understood the appeal of “Blade Runner”. It doesn’t suck but its really not that good.

Streep was his love interest.

In real life, Streep was dating John Cazale, who was dying of cancer during the filming.

Agree with you on “Taxi Driver”. What a POS film this is. I never got through it in one sitting. Total yawnfest.

The novel is beautiful whatever the politics. Interestingly, I had an English Prof. who thought it was blatantly anti-Communist.

The only good thing about Annie Hall was Christopher Walken as Daryl Hall. The only decent Allen film was Broadway Danny Rose.

Kind of? beyond boring. When it came out I was 19 and knew better than to waste my time. In 2002, it was re-released, and my five year old wanted to see it. I'm glad he liked it; I found it excruciating.

I agree with you on this. Heard all the fuss and bought Good Will Hunting when DVD first came out. Put it up on eBay the same night and got my money back, Thank God.

I’ve always noticed that libs like Celine are always free with OPM (other people’s money). But, when it comes to THEIR money, they are the biggest tightwads on the planet.

Just ‘Blade Runner’ would be fine. I don’t really like any of his other films. :) I thought James Cameron improved on Alien with his sequel.
