I was at a store once and was going to buy a CD and the cashier asked for my zip code. I don't know why but I told her I didn't want to give it and she said that she had to have it before she could sell the CD. So I said, 'Fine,' and walked out.

This guy's example is extreme but then again maybe we're all a little too compliant for our own good.

I used my debit card at a small pet store and was waiting to enter my pin number when the cashier asked to see my I.D. I told him he didn't need to see it for a debit purchase.

He kept insisting so I again refused adding I had no problem showing my I.D. had I been using my credit card. He told he was new and this was how his boss had trained him. I told him to bring his boss over. Odd, the boss wasn't in the store. I was calm the whole time but the kid was getting sarcastic. After completing my transaction, sans I.D., and leaving the store, the kid started saying goodbye loudly and, waving childishly, mockingly yelled, "Have a nice day."

He no longer works there...

Bingo. Frankly, I'm more than a little surprised to see so many on a Conservative political discussion forum assuming this guy's a WalMart hater and calling this guy an asshole for standing up for his rights.

This should be a much more thought-provoking thread than it is. Yours was the first post that was. Thank you.

Not sure about your state but the zip code here is used for county taxes.

That's used by the corporation to gather sales data from all their stores. Your zip code sold "x" number of "green widgets" which is far less than the stores on the other side of your state. So when it comes to future product restocking, that store on the other side of your state will receive more "green widgets" because they sell more. So the next time you shop for it, don't be surprised if your store is out of stock........

Let's simplify if further: "XYZ" corporation buys 500,000 raincoats that have to be distributed to their stores throughout the United States. And since product distribution is based on zip code sales, which zip code do you think would have the most sales of raincoats and thus the most raincoats in stock? One in Oregon or one in Arizona?
