Yes, I know lunar tides occur on both sides of the planet. I grew up on the ocean. However, only during a new moon is the sun’s gravitational pull added to the moon’s high tide at noon for an extreme high tide.

I’ll see your syzygy and raise you a Proxigean:

“The Proxigean Spring Tide is a rare, unusually high tide. This very high tide occurs when the moon is both unusually close to the Earth (at its closest perigee, called the proxigee) and in the New Moon phase (when the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth). The proxigean spring tide occurs at most once every 1.5 years.”

There will be no exceptionally high tide on March 19th. Both high tides for the 19th are predicted to be nearly equal due I suspect to it being full moon.

In your 80's?

Old enough to see Cat Stevens become "Yousef Islam", or something like that.

They interviewed an ASTROLOGER for this???

Yes FrogMom, some people confuse the terms 'Astrologer' and 'Astronomer'.

The Lone Ranger and Tonto turn in for the evening out on the plains. After a few hours, Tonto suddenly nudges the Lone Ranger until he awakens. Tonto says, with alarm in his voice "Look up! What do you see?"

The Lone Ranger looks up and says "I see the nighttime sky."

Tonto nods and says "So what does that tell you?"

The Lone Ranger thinks about it for a moment, then says "Well, astronomically, it tells me there are millions or even billions of stars and planetary systems in our galaxy. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is currently in Leo. Theologically, I feel the sky suggests that God is all-powerful and that we are small and insignificant. Time-wise, from the position of the moon, I'd say it's about 11:45pm. And meteorlogically, from the clarity of the sky, I'd say we're in for a great day of weather tomorrow. Why, Tonto? What does the nighttime sky tell you?"

Tonto replies "It tells me somebody stole our tent, you jacka$$."

In either event, TIME TO PARTY LIKE ITS THE END OF THE WORLD!!!!

This year March 19-20 coincides with the Jewish holiday of Purim, so I guess a lot of people will be partying.

“... old timers called a Comanche or Apache moon as that was when to expect attacks”.

OMG!! We’re going to be attacked by injuns? Circle the wagons and anyone living near a gambling resort take care.

Bail Bondsman in and near Dallas for a couple of years several years ago.

Full moon = increased revenues.

Not just people out under the light, either.

I went and looked at the website they mention to see if that was the case. It wasn’t, he’s an astrologer.
