Cats need time to process an idea. Dogs, being more social, respond instantly to commands and suggestions. A cat, if invited to do something fun (sit on a lap), will often wait a few seconds to think, and then take you up on it. That’s my conclusion.

Some cats develop their own way of communicating -- a particular meow, for example -- the same way people who speak the same language may have different regional accents. In other words a cat may say, "Meow Y'all" versus just a simple "Meow"?

What is indicated when that one little SOB scratches deep gouges into my brand new hand rail coming up the steps to the point where one gets splints in his or her hand when touching it. I know of one cat with a toe print on her anal opening for that fine gesture she presented to me. I have two cats one a terror and the other i think slept too close to a can of paint thinner while a kitten. And yes he licks windows too.

Laying on the book or newspaper that you are trying to read is a cats way of expressing total contempt for any human being whatsoever, “but as long as you are here, you may as well pet me.”

When my husband and I were in grad school our cat would decide when it was time for us to go to bed. He would jump up on our desk (unfinished doors supported by sawhorses), sprawl across our books and papers and proceed to groom himself. He was usually right; it was late, we were tired and not really accomplishing much....

My cat Woodrow can tell time, some where around 4:30 am every morning he starts digging at the covers to wake me up.

Mine likes to lick soap. She waits for me to get out of the shower and dress, following me close when I set down she sneaks up on me and starts licking my arms or crawling up in my beard and hair. She seems to really like the shampoo my daughter uses. Every time she visits the cat immediately tries to get into her hair.
