When I read that, I assumed it was an engraving of a woman riding on a mammoth tusk. It turns out the the tusk is the artistic medium.
She really isn't such a much. I don't expect her to be on the cover of "Mopar Power" any time soon.

Um... Who decided that it’s a woman and not say, a monkey? Or a depiction of a ceremonial mask? Or some old ivory god? It looks African to me, which may be why it’s unique in Europe.
