Um... Who decided that it’s a woman and not say, a monkey? Or a depiction of a ceremonial mask? Or some old ivory god? It looks African to me, which may be why it’s unique in Europe.

Chesterton raises that very point in The Everlasting Man.
Could you imagine what future anthropologists might make of our society if cenutries from now, all that survives is a book of Rorschach blots and a cubism exhibit from the MoMA?
