Not going to give you any advice because all advice is ****.

I’m in a similar position to you. I wake up each morning cursing the very moment I was conceived. Life is a curse, the worst curse imaginable and we all earned it for the unforgivable crime of merely existing. It has gotten to the point where I am a complete nihilist. I’m supposed to be passionate about helping people in a job that requires extreme commitment and courage...yet I just don’t care anymore...even though I have barely started it.

The power of evil and insanity in the world has rendered everything completely pointless. I don’t even love anyone because it leads to nothing but pain. It is impossible to save anyone or to make any positive difference.

I can save someone’s life today and it would accomplish nothing but dooming that person to tomorrow’s brutal fate.

I am not a Christian or even remotely spiritual and it’s probably never going to happen at this rate. It is absolutely incomprehensible to me how anyone can have a spiritual life based on nothing but words in an ancient book or some naive vision of the “beauty of creation” or some such nonsense. This world is 100% horror. Even the ‘good stuff’ is merely another reflection of horror and evil. Maybe there is a God and a heaven out there but I’ll never know. By the time I find out it will be too late and I’ll wind up in hell anyway.

Don’t know what to tell you. We are basically ****ed. The only reason to stay alive is out of an arbitrary sense of duty. Hopefully death will take us soon. That’s the only remaining hope.

Nice job.

What you say would be 100% correct...were there not a God.

I choose to believe there is a God (in fact, I can honestly say that I KNOW there is a God - a wonderful and loving God.)

If there isn’t, oh well. Belief in God has cost me nothing (in fact, it has been immeasurably rewarding).

I hear the Muslim Brotherhood is looking for “volunteers”

Seriously, isn't this kind of outlook what makes it so easy for jihadi’s to recruit? I know what you feel but Life is not a curse! It's a gift. From God or whatever you choose to believe. Everyone here has, or will have the same feelings you are feeling. It's just how you deal with it. I choose to live my mostly mundane life secure in the knowledge that I do have a purpose. Your trials are preparing you for something great! Believe it.

This world is 100% horror.

Agreed, except for kittens and hot peppers.

Oh, Soothesayer...

I will say a prayer for you as well. There is good in living and I pray that you find it and that you find the Lord.

I don't say this to aggravate; I say it because I care.

James, I don’t know if it helps to consider how someone else has it worse than you do.

But if so... then read post 44 and count your blessing that at least you’re not Soothesayer.

And Soothesayer... you can count yourself lucky to be in America. I’m almost inclined to chew you out for taking such an attitude - living as you do in the most prosperous nation ever in the history of mankind. I suggest you go google the stats on how Americans live as opposed to the rest of the world.

Just a couple of points I want to make:

First, I understand about the evil making everything seem pointless. For me, it's hard to care about the little things when I can see my country being dragged into hell by evil communists while half the country cheers them on. If the USA is being strangled with the new USSR feasting on the dead corpse, who cares if I have a decent 401K or if my lawn is well kept? How can I care about my career or anything else when my world is ending in front of my eyes? Isn't everything pointless now?

But then I realize that the exact opposite is true. Sure, the little things like lawn care and retirement plans are moot now, but the truth is that the upcoming apocalypse actually makes life more important than ever. Think about it. When we read about history, do we read about the peaceful times when everyone was happy and had enough to eat? Do we hear about the people who just lived their quiet lives without strife? Heck no. We read about the times when everything went to hell, when civilization, itself, was on the brink. Then we find out about men who rose up and made a difference, whether in a big way like Patton, or a small way like Pvt. Joe Somebody who landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. That's the stuff that matters. Well, guess what - our time is coming up. I can feel it. I think most people can. What we do now is hunker down and prepare, prepare, prepare. Our time is coming. What we'll do in this lifetime will matter more than most lifetimes throughout history. If everything was nice and peaceful and evil weren't on the rise, we could count on our lives not mattering one single bit. But our lives will matter now more than ever.

Second, life and the world are not 100% horror. Even most really, really crappy lives have their good points. However, if your life doesn't have any discernible good points, you should remember that plenty of other lives do. Maybe you got the short end of the stick. Lord knows I probably did, too. But other people out there are having a wonderful time. I know that doesn't make you feel better when your life is crap, but it is good to remember that not all life is bad. Furthermore, if your life IS crap, then that is all the more reason to look forward eagerly to the upcoming bad times because it will give you the chance to really do some ass-kicking. Once we get down to survival mode, all of the hand-wringing over petty things will vanish. Crying over broken dreams and lost loves is a game for the affluent. When you are scraping for that day's meal while trying to avoid the bullets whizzing overhead, there really isn't time to agonize over your sense of personal fulfillment. Plus, if you're doing all that while advancing on the enemy positions, life will take on a certain clarity.

Lastly, when it comes to death, I have reached the conclusion that there really is no point in longing for it, or hastening it. Death gets all of us, every single one, in the end, so none of us has to worry about living forever in whatever sorry circumstance we're in. All we have to do is ride it out, do the best we can in that time, and eventually it will all be over. That is the only certainty that you have in life - that it will end, whether you want it to or not. You don't have to go looking for it - it will find you soon enough. So, whatever misery you might be suffering, don't worry! It's not going to last forever.
