Close. He was a drummer.
Barbara Bach was about as physically fit as a woman could be in those days. And all natural too, I'm guessing.
Of course Plato just mentioned it in passing, so there was a lot of myth around it even then. Who knows, it may have originated with a Mycenean village of 200 being submerged by a wave in 1900 BC ;-P
Yup. The Rhine and Thames were once the same river.
Many of the Sa'ami of Finland are mtDNA U5a as are Cheddar Man and my grandmother.
I'm Irish and 52% of the Scolt Sa'ami have the same mtDNA as me, 'V'.
So....
(ahem) I have big teeth.
There certainly was, and Plato was writing about an event that occurred long before his time. His account can hardly be taken as fact.
If the speed of inundation is an issue, the theory in question involves a huge ice-dammed lake in Scandinavia that suddenly voided its reservoir due to "global warming." When those things finally flooded (and there were clearly many of them), all hell broke loose. Vast amounts of low-lying territory could have been flooded very quickly.
For comparison purposes look into a similar event caused by Pleistocene Lake Missoula that created the Scablands in Idaho-Washington. Or the violent flooding that occurred when former Lake Bonneville (now a small remnant called the Great Salt Lake) poured at an estimated 15 million cubic feet of water per second through the Portneuf Narrows LAKE BONNEVILLE
Two of Plato’s dialogues are in large part devoted to the discussion of Atlantis, so it wasn’t really just mentioned in passing. He’s literally the only ancient source of the tale; there’s a reference I’ve seen to a later Greek tourist, Creon, who claimed to have seen the written version of the story orally transmitted in the dialogues, carved on a wall of some grand building in Egypt, but as there is no such written version on any known Egyptian structure, Creon was probably getting buggered by a tour guide, who were no more reliable then than they are now.
And on that humorous note I revert to my original idea expressed in the words of classical scholar Daniel Dombrowski:
"Atlantis was only a powerful literary device invented by Plato, which was to act as a means of highlighting the fate of the ideal state created in Plato's mind's eye. The only place in which Atlantis can be found, in addition to the writings of Plato, is in the minds of those with an imagination as vivid as that of Plato."
That’s a possibility, and I don’t doubt that the rinky-dink details such as the semi-divine origin of the rulers, how they took turns sharing power and so forth were all typical of Plato’s thought exercises on politics. The fact remains that the continental shelf was dry land 10s of 1000s of years ago, and repeatedly submerged and exposed a number of times over the past two million years, the period when humans were coming around. IOW, Plato’s literary device was based on very old oral traditions which were, like the secret word in the game of telephone, altered in transmission over hundreds of generations, or perhaps many more generations than that.
The Great Pyramid was open to tourists during later Hellenistic and throughout Roman times, then blocked back up during the 5th or 6th century, a job done so neatly that the later break-in during Muzzie times couldn’t find it. Anyway, there’s an oddball inscription carved on the lintel over the original entrance, it consists of four characters, hmm, there’s a topic about this somewhere...

Also, parts of the original limestone facing on the Great Pyramid were carved with hieroglyphs, presumably dating back to the time of construction. That stone was pretty nice, and was carted off to build mosques and such in Cairo. The unfinished pyramid of Djedjefre — Khufu’s son and successor — at Abu Roash a few miles north of Giza was still being used as a quarry during the late 19th century.
The inside walls of the Great Pyramid were originally covered with plaster, a practice that was ubiquitous in ancient Egypt. Despite those centuries of Greek and Roman tourists, and the Muzzies, and moderns, some of that original plaster remained. A fragment of text on the plaster made reference to one year of Khufu’s reign, the Year of the Cattle Drive. It has since crumbled away.
Whoops, but yeah, there’s Greek and Roman graffiti on the Pyramids, on the so-called Memnon Colossi, on monumental art all over the place in ancient Egypt.

Dąmbrowski, a very Polish name :)
Why do you think they blocked it back up again?
Probably had to do with the rapid shift away from pagan religions to Christianity.
But yet by the 6th century, Egypt was Christian for 300+ years. In fact, it was arguably the centre of Christian thought. So why that period for the pyramids to be boarded?
With the correct audience and without any evidence what-so-ever, I accent my Viking heritage. (ahem)
Hey, who wouldn’t wanna sack a town, I mean, be honest. ;’)
Christians were officially persecuted in the Roman Empire until the 4th c, and there was at least one pagan revival after Constantine. The shift from paganism to Christianity wasn’t yet complete when Mohammed emerged with his largely plagiarized screed and his mass-murdering pedophilic ways.
