FORT KENT, Maine An arctic blast from Canada is bringing brutally frigid air and wind chills expected to dip to 50 below zero to northern New England, prompting officials to warn residents to take precautions against the cold.
The National Weather Service in Caribou issued a statewide wind chill warning Sunday night effective through Monday.

Ping.
In September, the commie libs said 2010 was the hottest year on record except on the Sun. I guess they should have waited until October, November and December had ended. This is the coldest winter I can rember since I left Alaska. And I’m living in Arizona right now. W.T.H.?
C’mon silly. They have told us. That’s with global warming.
Just wait ‘til it gets cold!
-50... is that going to be a new record low?
The record low for the state of Maine is -48F
48F 44C Jan. 19, 1925 Van Buren elevation 510

Almost froze to death here last nite. Our overnight lows dipped all the way down to 48 degrees and the high today barely broke 74.
What type of heat do you use?
When I say it was all frozen, what I mean is, everything was frozen. Even the street itself was frozen.
I have been through blizzards, icestorms, cold, before.
but that was cold cold. that was beyond cold.
Please Disregard ! Misread everything and replied incorrectly !
Stay warm.
I’ve lived all over America.
Central Ohio was beautiful.
Cold in the winter.
It’s about -10 here right now.
We have two parlor stoves, a cook stove, and a water heater stove. I fired them all up tonight with a good stack of wood. It’s comfortable here. It gets this cold from time to time. Last time was about 9 years ago.
Global Warming is a silly boogie-man myth perpetrated by city dwellers, metrosexual pansies, and circus barkers looking for suckers.
But we just had the warmest year EVER! So sayeth that obamabot Hassan (sp? who cares) who runs NASA.
So who are you going to believe, the thermometer and frost bitten skin or the government? BTW, if you choose the former, you are a racist Nazi hate-monger! /need I?
I saw something here last week that I’ve never seen IN ARIZONA before. A large area of “hoar frost” out on the Navajo reservation. I’ve seen it in Germany and Alaska but never in Arizona. It was cold but it sure was a beautiful sight.
so are you Freepers still debating whether to move to Florida? hey,you can’t win either way,,either you eat the frigid cold weather for 4/5 months out of the year,,or suffer for four months of 90 degree weather,,,,Take Your Choice!
Thank you, you are very kind.
I’m currently online with Captian Picard.
If it gets any colder, I’m going to request one of those ‘mission suits’ (or whatever they are) just so I can go outside.
Nope, that's outdated.
I was there, in Houlton on January 16, 2009 on business and witnessed weather history. It was surreal, the way the sound traveled through the air.

New All-Time Low Temperature Recorded in Maine On the morning of January 16, as New England was under the grip of an arctic blast, an all-time low temperature of -50° Fahrenheit was recorded for Maine. It was recorded at 7:30 a.m. EST at a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) stream gauge on the Big Black River near Depot Mountain in northwestern Aroostook County. The previous record, -48° Fahrenheit, was set in Van Buren, Maine almost 84 years earlier, on January 19, 1925.
Temperature wise, I saw -38 in Great Falls, MT (either 1977 or 1978). Very often with the wind chill we had up to 100 below zero. Of course after -20 you don’t really notice that much of a difference.
I've heard my area called many things, but never "beautiful."
Great people, though.
