In this video, you will see a woman who competed in the 17th season of the reality television show, "The Amazing Race", get smashed by a watermelon. "The Amazing Race" is a show that pits teams of two people against each other in a series of challenges that take place all over the world. The race takes the contestants on planes, balloons, helicopters, trucks, bicycles, taxicabs, rental cars, trains, buses, boats, and by foot as they attempt to beat the members of the other teams to "pit stops". All in an attempt win prizes and avoid the possibility of being disqualified for ending in last place. They get clues along the way that provides them with the information they need to reach the next destination or how to perform a task, either together or by a single member. These challenges are related in some manner to the country wherein they are located or its culture. Teams are progressively eliminated until the team that has avoided elimination is the first to complete the last leg of the race and thus wins the a grand prize.
In this video you will see Claire Champlin, who is teamed with her co-host of the Home Shopping Network, Brook Roberts, competing in a stage of the race where only one of the teammates compete in a challenge. Claire's challenge was to use giant catapults to knock over suits of Knight's armor standing down range. With her teammate, Brook, cheering her on, Claire is obviously missing the mark. Then as she revealed in an interview, she pulled the sling back as far as she could and aimed it in such a way that she expected to hit the armor finally. Well, it seems that the leather sling must have slipped around the melon and instead of the melon going down range it was immediately returned to Claire. As you will see in the video, the melon disintegrates as it smashes right into her face. OUCH!
At first Champlin said she didn't know what had happened until her teammate, Roberts came up and started wiping watermelon juice off her face. She told her friend that her whole face was numb. Later she would tell an interviewer that the first thought she had was sure that her television hosting career was over, because she was sure her face was destroyed. Just before the end where you hear Book say, "They don't call it the Amazing Race for nothing", she says some are misunderstanding what was said between the teammates. This is what Brook told ET,
"When she looks at me and goes, 'What do we do now?' It wasn't because 'I don't know what to do next.' It was: 'Are we going to be allowed to continue on because the medical team hasn't cleared us?" That is why you hear me whisper, 'I think we have to finish, as in quit. We were in shock. We didn't know what to do,"
In the same interview with ET last September, Claire revealed that she was married a month after completing the race, and that she was 4 Months pregnant at the time. So by now she would be less then a Month away from giving birth to her first child. Just so every one knows that she has a sense of humor over the whole incident, she told ET,
"I am doing fine, and I thank God it was a watermelon, and not a pineapple. I also want anyone who saw me on the show, and now wonders why I am so big now. No, I did not swallow a watermelon seed, I am pregnant."
No worry though, because the ever present staff was on the situation and within 15 minutes she was feeling better and they allowed them to continue if they wanted. In another interview, this one with Entertainment Weekly Claire said,
"Honestly, I thought I was a lot more injured than I was, and then CBS gave me the go ahead, but if I was ever going to be hit by a watermelon, that was the place to be. The whole staff is top of the line, I was grateful they were right there by my side."
Later when the race was complete and she went home, she said her Mom started referring to her a "Watermelon Girl". To which she now say's,
"I posted that name on my Facebook page. I really thought that I was going to go down in history for so many other things. But if the watermelon is my claim to fame, I guess I'm just going to take it and run with it. A watermelon, it can't hold me back."

For anyone who wonders how Claire and Brook finished. They came in 2nd place behind anesthesiologists Nat Strand and Kat Chang who were the first all-female team to win the American edition of the competition. Below is the results for all the contenders, and an explanation to understand it below that.

In this video you will see a woman who had a watermelon smashed into her face at very high speed. My wife is a paraplegic, and I know how fragile a spinal cord is. This woman can thank God that she is not a quadriplegic, or at a minimum had her neck broken..........

R. Lee Ermey was seen driving from the scene on a WWII jeep, cackling insanely...
A report will be forthcoming on whether or not the catapult was sabotaged.
This was the first season I watched the show. I saw this particular episode when it was broadcast and after watching that melon hit her I was surprised she was still lucid. She was knocked silly for a little but with all the editing it’s hard to tell while watching the show how long a period of time it is between getting hurt and continuing.
After reading this I’m not surprised at all it took her as long as it did to continue. These two were fun to watch though as they were always in hyperdrive.
Now just imagine this was Pelosi, and you’ll be watching this clip for the next 10 minutes!
My wife and I have never watched the show, but after writing this up and watching the video, we are thinking of checking it out this year. I guess we should decide quickly because the new season starts soon doesn’t it?
Hilarious. The fact that her nose was not crushed was amazing. Gotta love dopes on reality TV.
He loves to shoot/claymore(both kinds)/hurl watermelons on his History Channel show “Mail Call”.
The “Full Metal Jacket” story was that he, as a former Marine D.I. was acting as consultant to the actor playing the part and the actor fell out sick so director Stanley Kubrick had him fill in ostensibly for a few scenes and he then took over the role.
LOL
didn’t you post this last month?
Nope, first time I ever saw it was two days ago when I grabbed it and edited it for better viewing.
Still funny. LOL
I did do a search on woman gets smashed by watermelon to see if it was posted on FR before though. Other wise i would not have wasted my time. Now if someone used a different title and posted it, I would not know.
Don’t worry about it.
Can always use a laugh on Friday.
I think the one that is getting ready to start up is one where they bring back former non winners. Which could be good.
I’ve only watched a couple of seasons and the things they have to do and the places they visit are sometimes interesting.
Yeah, I thought for sure she broke her nose.
Yea, I really am surprised she wasn’t hurt worse than she was. I am glad she wasn’t but still surprised.
When does the new season start?
February 20th
I had originally thought she suffered some brain damage when I heard the two chicks discussing the incident. Upon closer examination I realized she was a contestant on a reality show and every thing is tip top.
