The (formerly) Mainstream Media continues to demonstrate their far left-wing bias in covering even the most basic stories.
Congresswoman Giffords fell in a hail of bullets yesterday, but she will still in surgery when CNN shouted to America that the shooter was an Army veteran of the war in Afghanistan and most certainly a right-winger. They also told us repeatedly she was dead, but of course, CNN getting the most basic story elements totally wrong is not news…. nor is it new…. nor even a surprise.
The only possible surprise is their total failure to even try to correct their mistakes. When the alleged shooter’s web postings revealed his far-left underpinnings, that the Communist Manifesto was one of his favorite books, CNN aired no corrections to its supposedly well-informed guests opinions that he was sure to be a right-winger.
When it became known the Army had rejected the shooter’s enlistment application, no one on CNN remarked; “Gee, at least the Army deserves credit for identifying this psycho early!” No, they just let guests continue to prattle on that he is probably a veteran with PTSD from Iraq or Afghanistan.
The only thing that was good about their coverage was that they didn’t blame George Bush. Actually, they don’t get any wisdom points for omitting President Bush. There was no spare time to accuse him. All their airtime was spent blaming Rush Limbaugh, the Tea Parties, even Sarah Palin. I was tempted to send CNN an e-mail stating that because Ms Palin hunts moose for subsistence, she is obviously a raving psychopathic, FOXNews-inspired homicidal maniac, and sign it Dr. Livingstone I. Presume, M.D., Famous Psychiatrist. I was about to send it, but was afraid they would probably be calling with 10 minutes to put me on the air.
This all of course follows their series of brilliant profiles, predictions and prognostications that the DC Sniper was an angry 40-something White Male, and the invasion of Iraq was hopelessly bogged down in the sand. After a series CNN broadcast about General Singlaub and supposed US war crimes in Vietnam, the producer admitted she had no creditable evidence for many of her charges, but since “everyone knew all the soldiers were war criminals;” facts did not matter to her.
Does anyone wonder why television news, with the exception of FOX, is losing 8% of its viewers every year? Even Dan Rather and Lew Grant have stopped watching.
The sad thing is that “back in the day,” (whatever that means), when I was young reporter coming up through the system, getting it “right” trumped everything else. A sign in the old UPI City Room in Chicago; “If your Mother says she loves out; check it out”; was an admonition to verify and validate everything.
Today, no one cares about facts. It’s all about getting facetime, sensationalism, and in the case of at least two highly visible female reporters at my old network (CBS), doing the Horizontal Mambo with the male bosses.
TV news is simply going away. Reporters and anchors don’t care about facts, and viewers don’t care to watch them.
CNN also had a panel discussing whether Sarah Palin’s “crosshairs” remark incited the shooter. Between that and the Sheriff who stated pretty much the same thing — I don’t know who is more irresponsible.
Folks nothing will equal the way the left attacked Bush in his
last few years in office. The right is not even close to calling the left the names the lefties used against Bush. But of course the MSM ignores that fact.
