Found out yesterday that wife totalled car. Long story short, looks like I'm buying a car soon. She'll want another SUV, but I'm thinking CUV. Looking at....
Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute Hyundai Tuscon Kia Sportage Mitsubishi Outlander Honda CR-V (a bit pricey) Mazda5 (not a CUV, but I'm including it as a wildcard)
I've read a lot of info online, but am hoping to hear from anyone with personal experience and thoughts. I'm going shopping with my wife, when I get back in town.
(NOTE: I refuse to consider RAV4 because my last Toyota was a disappointment, or anything GM/Chrysler)
Another reason to look at the CRV - wifey loves it that you get in and out like in a car, and not a truck.
Regarding ice, traction control is standard.
That's news to me.
OTOH, here's a winner.
I’ve had a Ford Ranger for years, so no need to convince me that Ford is decent.
All I have to do get HER to think that.
She’ll be looking at them for sure. It’s too bad the Kuga or C-Max aren’t out yet.
I think that’s a chain engine, too, but it’s the 1.8 L that I’ve had (optional on the Versa, I think standard on the new, bigger Sentra, that also comes with the 2.5 L).
I finally ended up with an '08 Dodge Nitro, and I LOVE it! I liked my three previous Explorers (and put over 200,000 miles each on them)...but I really like the Nitro much better.
I had one of those. With a roll bar. Later I had a ‘69? B same color, and I made door panels of zerba-wood and the owner prior to me had made a stickshift handle of some Central American root-wood, maybe mahogany. He also left a loose clip-worth of 223 shells under the rug of the seat, which I didn’t find until the seat came loose. Thank G-d none of them fired off when the loose seat rocked on them. It also had a dash-mounted DC-3 chronometer.
I kept that one until I married and we had twin boys. Dad’s have to give up expensive toys, and any Brit car is a monthly expense of significance, comparable to a plane or a boat. I ruined the top end with a downdraft American carb conversion — stick with the side mounted variable venturis — they don’t wash oil off the top end of the cylinders.
My wife has a 2007 Tuscon and is very pleased.
I wish.
I gave up a Miata (a leftover from my single days), when our second daughter was born.
Whatever it is if you spend more than $500.00 your nuts.
I have a ‘97, not fast, but reliable. Parks easy.
69 GTO.
How’s the ride quality?
Brunette, short and perky about 29 yrs old.......
Ooo, a Cowboy Cadillac.
Just our experience:
1997 Toyota 4 Runner...still going strong, the ultimate car for everything. Tows the boat, carries the 90 lb dogs, carries cargo, but can still be a family car. Downside, gas mileage not so great, rides like a truck (but comfortable to drive) It’s got 185,000 miles and hardly any repairs. At thiis point our only car, we’re at a point where we can share a car, and we’ll keep it until it dies (saving bucket loads of money using this strategy. :)
1996 Subaru Outback...loved it, fun car, good multi-purpose car, good mileage, but it needed too many repairs once it hit about 100,000 miles.
Kid went all the way through college/grad school w/no assistance from us so we bought him a 2007 Honda CR-V as a graduation present. He has lots of miles on it (commutes quite a ways to work everyday. But around 70,000 it started needing repairs, and the inside has not held up as well as the interior of our Toyota (both leather) even though our Toyota has more miles on it.
So I’d go with a Toyota...hopefully they’re still making them as solid as they used to.
“66 Pontiac Catalina convertible”
I like the way you think! Drop.Dead.Gorgeous.
M1A2 ABRAMS
Ford F-150 that should keep her safe in a accident.
I hear you.
I drove Ranger4x4s for over a decade too, put a ton of miles on them.
Before that I was driving S-10s...my first Ranger moved me off Chebbies for life.
Then I went through four or five F-150 4-bys (I have to drive a lot & go through the vehicles) and they were all great. But they’re just a little bigger (and pricier) than I need, so this last time I went with a Tacoma.
You know, the Tacoma is fine. But the gas mileage sucks, the small design stuff is annoying, and—this one is really weird—the six speed shifter does that thing (there’s a word for it) that keeps the rpms running fairly high even as you let off the gas and push in the clutch.
You get that revving action and sound, you know, which is just incomprehensible from a company that has been making renowned pickups for years. I know a NAPA parts guy who bought a brand new six speed, took it back after six months and bought an automatic just because it drove him nuts.
Trouble is, I didn’t talk to him until I had already bought mine.
I wish to heck Ford would build a mid-size pickup, Dakota/Tacoma size, right?
Sooooooo sweet. Sometimes I like the 65 more (different front end). But either way — beautiful. Then came the 67!!!!! What a nightmare.
