I think there is an Interwebz controversy on whether this was a true “flash mob.”

When the “mob” deferred to a couple of soloists at different passages I knew this was not spontaneous at all: it was planned.

But it was an excellent rendition, even if a little less than honest.

Who really cares if it is a true flash mob. Most of the things flash mobs do is stupid and fairly pointless. As you said it was an excellent rendition. The other one in Philly at the Macy’s was a not as spontaneous but reminds people the reason of the season. A lot better thank flash skateboarders or people singing shoe tunes or idiots who miss glee club.

All flash mobs have to be planned to some extent. The point is to all gather and perform a pre-defined action together.

I don’t see how this is any different and why people would question if it was a true flash mob.

I'm confused now. I thought all of these were “planned”. It is the standard unknowing audience that is not in on it. Right???? Did you think that all those talented people just happened to be there by accident?
