Need Cheap Ticket to Tuscany

Posted on 12/04/2010 1:44:18 PM PST by Vision

I'm trying to book a trip to Tuscany, Italy this summer(July/August) and am in need of a cheap airline ticket without an overly wacky route/schedule.

Anybody have a secret to this? All the rates seem to be around $1,500.

Turn it into a business trip and write it off as a business expense.

MAESTRO: Well if you're thinking of getting a place there don't bother. There's nothing available.

Crazy as it sounds, I used a travel agent when I went to Florence, and he got me far and away the best rate, plus the best seats on a great airline (Lufthansa). Freepmail me if you need his number and I’ll shoot it over to you Monday when I’m back at the office.

The expensive part of the trip is over the pond

Get to Europe as cheap as you can- look for deals to Paris or Amerstdam or ?

Then book onward to Tuscany from a major European hub

Or take the train

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time getting a ticket to Tuscany.

You should try Alabama where the Tuscaloosa.

Did you check Orbitz? My daughter is flying (roundtrip) next Tuesday from Naples to Jacksonville via Munich & Philly for only $650. She bought the tickets maybe a month to month and a half ago.

Nothing exciting is happening at Orbitz unfortunately.

Pretty much EVERY search site and airline uses exactly the same software which is itasoftware.com. They all dress it up a little for their own purposes but it is the same stuff. It can give you almost endless variations to search on and give the best day to travel out and back. Be careful because it does not search 'outsider' airlines like Southwest and Ryan - you will have to Google for any extra airlines flying between the airports of your choice. I usually search on itasoftware.com which does not allow you to book directly (or Kayak.com which does) and then go to the best airline and book on their site.

The answer is $1,234 from New York but you need to feed in your details. Try flying to/from Europe to the cheapest airport and then take a super-cheap airline to Pisa or Florence. Do not fly to America from Britain: their outbound APT will add mega bucks to your fare. Good Luck!

Go by a freighter. A little known secret. UPS and Fedex both have a limited number of seats in the cargo section of their aircraft. Bring warm blankets.

I thought Naples to Jacksonville was only 287 miles.

The last time I checked, Southwest didn't have any flights to Italy. If they have added some, be sure to pack something to eat--an 8 or 9 hour flight is a long one when the only foods they serve are crackers, cookies, and peanuts.

See if it cheaper to fly to Milan (MXP)--the train trip from Stazione Centrale in Milan to Florence is just a little over 2 hours (but it can take an hour or more from the airport to the train station).

Have you looked into taking passage on a merchant ship. I’ve heard it can be cheap, but of course the voyage takes some time.
