This is not a thread for light browsing. This will wear out anyone, links that make me wish I were twenty people at once.

Here are some research aids:

The US Is Scrambling To Produce The Experimental Ebola Drug ZMapp [UK/Telegraph]

“...they may not be able to produce more than a few hundred treatment courses by early next spring...”

One bottleneck is tobacco. I’ll explain in the next post.

I’ve been suspecting for a long time that this was being orchestrated, part of Agenda 21. But I didn’t realize how brazen their ‘snafoo’ would be. The slipshod way they handled this is BEYOND stupid — it’s misanthropic, literally.

I live near tobacco farms, worked in one for one season as a teen, and know a few things about it. [Would be even better if an actual grower offers input.] The plant is normally harvested around this time — once a year. And if it takes until spring, then tobacco itself is not the worst bottleneck.

The kind of tobacco plant they need grows in Kentucky. We need to consider hothouses to grow it year-round. Surely the conditions can be simulated and even be improved on.

[non-tobacco thoughts]

“ZMapp’s development was held up for years by funding delays from a Pentagon programme aimed at countering biological threats.”

Obama’s priorities in budgeting are clearly warped. He wants abortion survivers ‘aborted’. Well, apparently it goes further than that. If the republicans were blocking ZMapp [which I seriously doubt], why didn’t Obama scorch them with a speech about this in particular? Drudge would have backed him up.

Even chlorine kills Ebola. I suppose bleach ought to as well.

Ebola apparently can pass through pores of the skin, the sinuses, the throat, and through ‘intimate contact’. Sweat, spittle, mist from one’s lungs. I’m no doctor, but it’s a darn good thing that we’re having a cold winter to help kill it. Praise God for that.

The real problem is that that a smart terrorist would not get himself infected, but carefully fill his carryone luggage with Ebola’d garments in plastic bags. Spreading would take a bit of work since it won’t aerosolize, but can be sprayed. I can easily envision a scenario where a terrorist could infect 100 people in an all-out attack with a sprayer. A stealth attack with fomites would infect less but would spread more and he would not get stopped right away.

cold winter to help kill it.

Others have noted on other threads that cold damp weather actually enhances the virus survival. I have not seen direct studies of this, but it is plausible.

Contagion Blast Radius: How Far Can Ebola Droplets Travel?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3210591/posts

“The study made a startling realization: there’s a crucial respiratory cloud that you expel every time you sneeze or cough, which is made up of hot/moist air and some water. This cloud actually enhanced the range and travel length of the smaller droplets, helping them travel way farther than they previously thought. Because the droplets are in a cloud, they stay suspended and travel further — particularly smaller ones, which travel up to 200 times farther than previously estimated. Therefore, they can penetrate the room and ventilation systems more insidiously.”

Based on my rudimentary training in fast food management: microbe survival is ideal at the temperature of the human body. Any upward or downward deviation exponentially kills it, but to really kill it off, we’d need really high temperatures, or else chemicals. Microbes also survive better around moisture.

“...cold damp weather actually enhances the virus survival.”

New one on me, but I’m no expert by any means. ‘Damp’ I would agree with, and yes, a virus can crystalize at freezing temperatures. But they would be stopped ‘cold’ in the short run. Buys us a little time. But on the other hand, our southernmost states will be breeding grounds.

And mosquitoes will be difficult to avoid. From my personal experience, a single mosquito can drink blood multiple times [contrary to what the authorities claimed when West Nile Virus broke out].

We also need to consider bats. We have vampire bats in the US which drink the blood of livestock. If that kind of bat becomes a carrier, then we have a major problem. Fruit bats would be eaten by some peoples’ pets, but that’s not as big a threat.

There is a limit to spread by air. Some viruses need to travel in actual droplets and ebola appears to be that way. Others aerosolize which basically means a small droplet nucleus. Darned if I know the difference, but flu viruses can aerosolize.
