Anti-clericalism was actually widespread in Italy a century ago. If you would have visited my ancestral village at that time, you would notice that it was the women who attended Church, while the men hung out or stayed home.
Mussolinis father was an Atheist and Socialist, who named his son after Benito Juarez.

I know that, but ‘anti-clericalism’ is not the same as not having religious values, it was opposition to social leadership by the clergy. Since Mussolini started out as a leader of the socialist left, his dad’s ideas are not surprising. Didn’t know about the Juarez connection though.
