WASHINGTON--As his controversial tenure nears its end, Sen. Roland Burris gave a farewell address Thursday lamenting there will be no blacks at all in the next Senate.
"This is simply unacceptable," he said. "We can and we will and we must - do better."
Today, highlighting a long list of his accomplishments in the Senate, including among them the passage of health care reform, Burris joked that he may return to the Senate to vote to let gays and lesbians serve openly in the military.
"I'm from Chicago," he quipped. "I'll vote twice."

Put Zer0 back in the Senate.
Alan West could cure Burris angst. Just wait a year or so.
;-)
Of all the.... ain't that a shame. Go back to Chicago.
MA had a Black senator. But he was a Republican.
Did he support black Senatorial candidate Michael Steel four years ago. If not, shut up about race.
It’s the Jooos fault!
No, really, in this case.
Jews are about 2% of the population, but 13% of the Senate.
Quite obviously they are presently filling all the seats black politicians have a “right” to (about 10).
Do I need the < / sarc >?
yeah but, is Guam going to capsize?
He probably supported Steele as much as he supported Swann and Blackwell for Governor. And he probably is just as said about the lack of black Governors too.
Not really. Burris, or any Dem from Chicago, has no shame.
Look at Carol Mostly Fraud, most of the recent mostly Dem governors...
Hey Katherine,
Name one, just ONE, Black Country in the the whole wide world that effectively governs itself!
Sorry, I couldn’t either!
I think we should have at least an 80 to 90 percent white
NFL and NBA. If we need the Senate to “look like America” then we need the NFL and NBA to “look like America” as well.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
The first African-American in the Senate was a Republican. He got run out by Southern Democrats.
Maybe we should gerrymander California into two states, one with a majority black population which would more likely elect a black senator or two.
Soooo they want quotas for public offices too now?
F em.
Did the democrats run a single black person for senate this year, other than the accidental candidate Greene?
