I just noticed this.
Why is the Facebook "Like" icon now appearing on every page I go to? Is FR now connected in some way to Facebook?
Like 1 person 0
China takes over our government’s Internet for 18 minutes, and then a missle is fired off the coast of California.
Coinky dink?
You be the judge.
First, breath.
Second, if you don’t have a Facebook account then this means nothing to you. You must choose to link the story to your Facebook page if you have one.
It’s called a 21st century social networking/media mash-up.
Geeez!
I do have an FB page.
So if I post an article and someone “Likes” it, the article with my login name is put on the FB FR page?
I do have a Facebook page.
I went to a conference on social media.
I understand what it can do.
Did you join FR on FB? I didn’t. My FB page and FR are in no way linked.
Yesterday a friend of mine was kicked off Facebook....we couldn’t find her anywhere or get in to ask why. Today she is back on just like always. Someone said they heard on the news that a large number of Facebook members were kicked off yesterday for no apparent reason. Anyone else hear this?
No I didn’t.
we need a dislike button
There were thumbnail pics of my niece, my next door neighbor and a few other people that I know. There were also several people that I had no idea who they were.
I'm thinking, "How the hell does Facebook know my connections to these people? I had never received invitations to join Facebook by most of these people. How did it know that I KNEW them? Then I realized, that the people I didn't know, whose photos were shown in those thumbnail pics WERE PEOPLE THAT WERE ON MY EMAIL ADDRESS LIST - PEOPLE I HAD SOLD THINGS TO ON EBAY.
Then I realized that all of these people listed - I had had email contact with before. HOW THE HELL DOES FACEBOOK GET ACCESS TO MY EMAIL ADDRESS LIST??????
Could someone explain that to me?
Do not be so sure at all.
You have an FB page, that means FB cookies on your machine.
You click on an FR thread to read it.
In displaying the FR thread, it goes off somewhere and runs some Javascript PROVIDED BY FACEBOOK!!!
The Javescript checks for a FB cookie on your machine, and records that you, as a user of Facebook, viewed FR thread XYZ on such and such a date and time.
May be it was a thread about not liking Obama. Maybe it was a thread about guns...
Get the picture?
Just use Firefox, and install the NoScript plug-in.
Make sure that facebook.net is denied the ability to run JavaScript. It's denied by default, until you enable it.
I looked all over the page trying to find the "like" button, and finally realized that's why I couldn't see it.
If anyone believes Rauf I have a piece of a Bridge I would like to sell them and someone should Snipe al-Awlaki for making Molly go Ghost.
SeewhutImean??
There is a thing on FB called Friend Finder and if you use it, one of the options is to find friends USING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AND LOGIN PASSWORD!!!!! (Password to your email account)
Check my reply just above this. With Firefox and the right plugin, you can disable it.
” Nope. You’d have to join just as you do with the Yahoo FR Group. “
I made the mistake of ‘joining’ the FR Yahoo group - and my ‘private’ email was immediately inundated with SPAM, which purported to originate from that space....
BTW - I get a LOT of “Facebook” SPAM, apparently by virtue of having been ‘invited’ by well-meaning relatives and acquaintances - even though I have NEVER responded in any way to those ‘invitations’......
(For the record, I have NEVER had any indication that FR, or anyone associated with FR, has in any way violated my privacy - thanks JimRob!!!)
So, yes, I have privacy issues with this stuff....
Ok so neither of us know if a “Like” article shows up on FR’s FB page. lol I imagine that it does but under a persons posting name if anyone bothers to go to the article. I believe it simply rates articles with live links to them. It would be the same as an article coming up on an internet search. It just takes someone to the posted article.
I run Firefox No Script.
I don’t see any facebook link/like anything. I did just update my fB privacy settings recently. I don’t even share information with myself now.
I don’t use my personal email for anything including FB and FR Yahoo. I have a separate Yahoo account for that. It links to an old netscape account.
