They don't know
what it is!
To: Aevery_Freeman
I don't think so, since:
A) That's already been announced.
B) It's two objects, where this is supposed to be a singular object (unless their English is terrible).
Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

It’s 425 light years away, doesn’t that mean if it blew 425 years ago we’d see it today?

Isn't that what I implied?
I must be slipping in my old age. Coincidentally, I will be 425 years old a week from next Tuesday. Rim shot...

Looks like this has something to do with Aquila X-1, as the terse,
most recent line on the Chandra press release page sez, "During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to include two 7 ks observation of the source Aql X-1 that were accepted as Targets of Opportunity on Oct 15."
If not, I can't imagine what the flap is about. Some of the most momentous astronomical discoveries have been more or less accidental, but my wild guess is, there isn't so much secrecy surrounding this as there is publicity building.
