Why does/did George Strait do his "fake end of concert"?

Posted on 10/29/2010 7:45:38 AM PDT by rudy45

The last four times I have seen George Strait, he did the same thing: at the end of "Unwound," while the band is doing the ending, he thanks everyone for coming, then acknowledges the band. He then leaves the stage, then the band follows. After about three minutes, everyone comes back, and he does three or four more songs, ending of course with "The Cowboy Rides Away."

Why does he do that? Are those last few songs supposed to be an encore? Is it really an encore if the whole thing is staged lol?

You need to look up the definition of “encore”.

I’ve seen bands do “planned” encores. Even funnier when they are on a remote stage (center of the crowd) and can’t leave but pretend to anyway.

I’ve also seen bands say “we’ve got to go” and say “this is our last song” only to do another 30 minutes or more.

The Doors did a several hour concert in Detroit one time that they recorded (part of it came out as Absolutely Live and eventually they released the whole thing). After about 90 minutes he asks the audience if they’d stay for the show if the band paid the staff to work another hour. John Sebastian even got onstage with them.

....It’s a multiple song encore...everybody has done encores in rock and country history except folks like John Cale and David Byrne and Prince..egotists.

And more importantly, you never never never ever ever criticize George Strait in my wife’s presence.

I thank God he lives in San Antonio and not here in Williamson county Tennessee...else I’d have to do DNA on our many children. She is about George Strait like girls were about the Beatles in 1965.

Go to Kenmore Square if you want to hear "Roxanne".

Whipping Post...lol...little did I know back in 1971-72 that I would learn to live that song...and like it.

“Yes Ma’am...how many more checks do you need dear?”

Im going to see my very favorite tomorrow night - Alan Jackson, or as I call him “My Fiance’”.....got tickets comped from a band member as it’s a free show for the recovery of the Gulf and they only had 6,000 tickets to give away, which were gone in less then 90 minutes.....and I hope he does several encores. I love him. I’ve seen George Strait many times at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo as well as Toby Keith and love them both!

Alan Jackson would be good. Have a great time. I had not been to a concert in years, was surprised how much I enjoyed it.

To my wife, George and Reba are the King and Queen of country. Even she was very disappointed in the concert. Doesn’t mean we won’t listen to their stuff a lot, just not in an areana. If either of them plays a smaller venue, we’ll be there.

None of these can hold a candle to James Brown finishing with “Please, please, please” and multiple robes.

It's as much an encore as the "obligatory" standing ovation is a standing ovation.

When Ringo Starr tours with his All-Starr Band, he and his band never leave the stage. What they do is stay on stage and let the crowd applaud then launch into a few more songs. Ringo says that “At this point in the show, we normaly run off stage and you know that we are coming back. Well, we’re not. We’re just going to stand here and let you do your thing then we’re going to finish the show” or some variant of that speech.

As for George Strait, I don’t care what he does. I enjoy his singing and concerts. Pardon the pun, but he’s pure country. That’s what one wants to here at a country concert. Quite unlike Tim McGraw or Keith Urban. They’re more like rock acts.

Besides, my wife loves GS. She could stay there all night and listen to him.

My last concert was "Here Come The Mummies". Great time great music. They played 90 minutes straight.Oh yea plus the oncore. Their music is a little racy (in a sexy way),and some songs are down right racy.

Check them out on youtube.

All encores are staged. What’s funny is to see it happen when the crowd response doesn’t warrant it.
