This photograph of Boulevard du Temple in Paris was made in 1838 by Louis Daguerre, the brilliant guy that invented the daguerreotype process of photography. Aside from its distinction of being a super early photograph, its also the first photograph to ever include a human being. Because the image required an exposure time of over ten minutes, all the people, carriages, and other moving things disappear from the scene. However, in the bottom left hand corner is a man who just so happened to stay somewhat still during the shot he was having his shoes shined.
Time traveler! Oh, wait, wrong thread...
wow, that's a crazy coincidence!
Of course it is not just the man having his shoes shined, but he shoe shine man, who are both in the picture.
LOL!
So.......two people are in the shot.
Bull! It's Captain Morgan. Check out the tricornered hat. "Arrrrrrr!"
It’s just the Highlander, lad.
Interesting to see the rows of trees planted down the boulevard. Not much different from today.
Interesting to think most of the people in the photo were moving too “fast” for their image to appear on the film. It’s sort of like that Original Series Star Trek episode “Wink of an Eye”, where the inhabitants move so quickly, they are unseen.
To me it looks like the guy in the photo is giving someone a stompdown. Typical street violence in Paris. Nothing to see here...
There are some daguerreotypes of the last few surviving Revolutionary war veterans taken in the early 1840’s and the first presidential photo of an aging Andrew Jackson. The president was so impressed with the daguerreotype process that he had the federal government pay to have daguerreotype made of the veterans and Jackson. The process was so expensive at the time that it cost nearly $10,000 per daguerreotype in today’s money
Uhhh....????
Quite a stumper. My closest guess is a poodle somehow walking on its hind legs, but it has no tail.
Thanks for that info apillar...I didn’t know about that price tag! Wow.
Interesting! I used to have a photo in my files that was the first picture taken of a individual person by a camera. I have over 5 thousand graphics and am unable to find it right now, lol.
Probably just a typical Rand Paul supporter..
Looks like Gumby to me.
