Jean-Claude Van Damme Reportedly Suffers Heart Attack on Set

'80s icon Jean-Claude Van Damme reportedly suffered a heart attack on the set of his latest movie, 'Weapon,' TwitchFilm.net is reporting. Reports of the heart attack, which has been described as minor, come just one day after his 50th birthday.

When contacted by MTV News for a status on his recovery, his reps gave a quick response: "He is okay."

'Weapon' had been shooting in Romania until last week when production was scheduled to move to New Orleans for three days of filming. Soon after arriving, complications arose and filming was put on hold. It's since been revealed that the complication was Van Damme's heart attack.

The action star was admitted to a New Orleans hospital where his wife, Gladys Portugues, joined him. Once released, the couple flew back to his home country of Belgium where he is expected to make a full recovery.

Wow!

You never know — even someone in shape (and seeing him on his “Lawman” series tells me he works out) can have one tiny pressure point blow out.

He is one of the good guys. Prayers for his speedy and complete recovery.

One of my favorites! I hope he gets well soon! Dude’s lived a hard life, mostly of his own doing. I recently saw his semi-fictional, semi-autobiographical film, “JCVD.” Great movie and not quite what you would expect going into it.

Health and addiction

Van Damme had troubles with cocaine that started during 1995. He entered a month-long rehabilitation program in 1996 but left it after only one week. In 1996, he spent up to $10,000 a week on cocaine. He is also reported to have experienced bipolar disorder. A turning point in his health issues came in late 1997, after having signed divorce papers charging him with spousal abuse, and drug addiction.

After the filming of the 1998 film Knock Off, Van Damme was diagnosed with rapid cycling bipolar disorder after becoming suicidal and started treatment on the bi-polar medication sodium valproate to stabilize his mood.

On October 18th, 2010, a day after his 50th birthday, while filming for the movie “Weapon” in New Orleans, Van Damme suffered a minor heart attack. He is expected to make a full recovery.

OMG LOL!!!!!

I guess working 20 hours a day for the last 3 days finally is taking its toll. Oh well, I had to hit the wall sooner or later.

Well, prayers for Van Damme and maybe I can influence his post-recovery series: “Jean-Claude Van Damme: Gendarme”

He does workout extensively—karate, even did ballet to enhance his coordination for his martial arts. However he used to be addicted to coke and alcohol I believe. This could definitely impact and weaken the heart long term even if one quits, which I do not know if he has quit permanently. Hope so. Wish him well in his recovery.

I've noticed in recent years that he has a lump on his forehead. I would think its not to healthy to have a lump that doesn't do away. Does anyone know how he got it?

>>cocaine is a hell of a drug.<<

When messing with Vitamin-”C” you walk up to a point when you realize that you will spend every penny you ever will make on it or walk away forever.

It will kill you if you stay with it.

JCVD...was surprisingly good. Here in L.A., the city of Silverlake (a damn lib enclave), I recently met folks who still remembered him living in garages and to pay the rent he would do painting and gardening jobs before heading to the bus stop for auditions.
