Top 10 TV Shows of All Time
catalogs ^ | July 6, 2010

Posted on 10/15/2010 9:08:27 PM PDT by JoeProBono

"Any top ten list is bound to be subjective, but this one has criteria: to make this list, a show must have longevity (Sports Night was great, but didn’t last), staying power (Three’s Company was funny, but hopelessly dated), strong writing (hopefully self-explanatory) and memorable moments (there’s a good reason that the final episode of M.A.S.H. was until very recently the most watched show in television history). Here are my choices, and let the debate begin."

Far too many great but forgotten shows. Most of you probably didn’t live during the early days of TV. Can any of you remember 10 top radio shows? Rhet.

I agree with others that Twilight Zone and Star Trek deserve mention. Also, if SNL is on the list, the Tonight Show of the Johnny Carson years should be there.

I saw The IT Crowd on BBC in Iraq. There was also a British version of a call center outsourced to India. Funniest stuff I have seen in a long time.

While I hate the whole idea of government-run television, I thank PBS and The Beeb for The Vicar Of Dibley, as well as Keeping Up Appearances and As Time Goes By. Really nice, human-scaled, gentle comedies with warmth. Millicent Bucket is an hilarious character, very memorable. Judy Dench is great in everything she's ever done.

Any list that has "top ten" and "TV" in it must include 'I Love Lucy' to be credible.
But hey!, these kind of totally subjective threads are great! I once did a similar one:

IT Crowd is written by Graham Linehan, who wrote “Father Ted” and “Black Books”, he is 3 for 3 in great comedy shows. Much funnier than any American comedy offering these days.

How about “Taxi” with Andy Kaufman and Christopher Lloyd?

For a brief SciFi show, “Farscape”, the best in decades.

“Law and Order” was pretty good.

“Friday the 13th” back on late night scifi channel

“Benny King Show” - British. will have you wetting your pants

“Red Green Show” - Canadian - brilliantly funny

Agree completely. SNL jumped the sharked 20 years ago and coasts on fumes. Seinfield was mostly funny to Easterners. I’ve met one person in my whole life that actually watches this show. I’m from the South.

I did try to watch Seinfield but it was painfully UNFUNNY!

Good show. But not even close to being the longest-running sitcom of all time.
