Musical Brainsstorm Help Requested: Need Examples of Saxophone (Vanity)

Greetings, fellow Freepers...my 10 year-old has recently taken up a musical instrument, the saxophone. She's interested, and although there's an obviously long road ahead, I was hoping to collect some examples of the saxophone to get her some additional exposure to the sound.

Looking for musically-inclined to assist with a brain-storming list. Obviously, I'd like to hear examples of jazz or blues, but I'd like to include rock, pop, and even orchestral genres as well. What songs or artists would you suggest as a good example of saxophone play?

I played the sax. A great instrument. The greatest song ever, IMHO.

Charlie Parker - there is a movie of his life called THE BIRD but as he gets hooked on drugs and dies young I would skip that.

Fantastic jazz sax though.

Oh yeah ! Clinton had a gawd-awful tone when he played on Arsineo's show.

And he was supposed to be an award winner too in college

Intro music to the original “The Blob” movie. Classic 50’s rock n roll sax.

I would suggest a site you can get some Sax clips from - www.realsax.com. This is operated by a high-school buddy of mine that has figured out an interesting business model. Go take a look.

In any case, you’ll find some MPG clips of Sax playing different genres. Jim was an aces Sax player when we were in High-School together. He was the guy doing arrangements for our Stage Band in 11th grade fer instance. The turkey took up trumpet since then as well and sounds better than I ever did on it!

Hopefully it’ll give you the ammunition you’re looking for.

Steve
