I think the research at this site has been in progress for a while. I included it on a list of sites to visit and learned it is closed to all but selected researchers. If memory serves,it is quite large and will take a long time to be excavated and studied.
About ten years ago (maybe longer?) I read about one of the abandoned PreColumbian structures; it had been divided rather crudely by new walls, as if two factions couldn’t agree to share everything and couldn’t stand the sight of each other. Then, sometime not long after, there was a massacre, which included cannibalism of those killed.
