Maybe this will lead to a cure of 'Irish Alzheimers'.

You forget everything except the grudges.

Seriously, hard-headedness and red hair are not diseases.

The hard-headedness is probably naitive, but the red hair came from the Viking raids and settlement over hundreds of years.

thought to be associated with inflammatory bowel disease and chronic liver disease.
It's not the DNA, it's the Guinness.

Wrong-o, me boy-0.

Your red hair is a Neanderthal trait. Ancient aboriginal Hibernians had a high incidence of red hair and were notably hairy. Your Celts who took over were dark-haired, and your later Danes and Norwegians left the blond bits. The English left a lot of bad feelings and thank god, not their teeth. Your closest ancient euro-relatives are the Galicians of Northwestern Spain and the Bretons.

The real question is, "Who left the Guiness?"

“high prevalence of a number of diseases”

“What is that about?”

Frequently a gene was discovered when a mutant copy of it turned up causing an affliction. Thus the gene that, if it works it means you do NOT get cystic fibrosis; gets called the “cystic fibrosis gene” - as if the gene was there to either cause or prevent cystic fibrosis.

It is thought that any diseases that are common to a particular population and/or culture might have a genetic component making them more susceptible (or causing) the affliction.

But genes are NOT there to cause genetic disease!

Sort of like a mechanic telling you your cars carburetor is there to flood the engine. Because he discovered the carburetor when the engine started flooding!
