Albert Pujols And Tony La Russa Will Be Appearing At Glenn Becks Restoring Honor Rally

Albert Pujols and Tony La Russa will be making an appearance at Glenn Becks Restoring Honor rally, and Pujols will reportedly be honored in some way. No word yet on whether or not that honor will be Most Awkward First Baseman To Talk To.
In case youre just joining us:
Organized by Fox News talk show host Glenn Beck and featuring former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the Restoring Honor rally is scheduled to take place at the base of the Lincoln Memorial on the 47th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther Kings I Have a Dream speech.
While it may sound like the two are taking some sort of political stand, they are saying all of the right (i.e. neutral) things:
I made it clear when we were approached: I said, If its political, I wouldnt even approach Albert with it. I dont want to be there if its political, La Russa said.
If youll recall, La Russa found himself in some hot water after he came out in support of Arizonas Immigration Laws. As for Pujols, hell be there because the rally is expected to include a faith-based message.
That all sounds great, except that Becks rally has caused a pretty strong reaction from people, both positive and negative. A counter-rally from Al Sharpton is expected. In summation: the chances of this non-political event actually being a non-political event are virtually zero and LaRussa and Pujols will be right in the line of fire. Probably not the smartest move.
Witness what happened to World Series hero Curt Schilling. He thought it would be a good idea to express his support for George W. Bushs 2004 reelection campaign on Good Morning America, momentarily forgetting that Bushs opponent was from Boston and that it was an overwhelmingly Democratic stronghold.
A word to the wise when you are already universally loved and respected, its best to keep your politics to yourself.
Bless them for their strength and character.
WOW! That takes a lot of guts. I’m switching my allegiance to the Cardinals. That’s really not a big sacrifice for me though. I normally root for the lowly Mariners. :(
I know Tony LaRussa came out in support of Arizona’s illegal immigration law. I believe he also has a law degree.
The Cardinals are my 2nd favorite baseball team next to the Cincinnati Reds. Now their battling/fighting it out for 1st in the Central. They used to be in different divisions before 1993.
Another reason to tell your friends in the DC area to attend. Palin, Beck, Pujols, and LaRussa.

As much as I look forward to the day when baseball, as a “sport,” ceases to clutter the airwaves I thank them for this.
God Bless them both!!!

LaRussa came out for
Pujols came out against...
Hmmm.
Go Cards!!!!
Witness Curt Shilling moving his video game company from Massachusetts to Rhode Island...Payback's a biotch....
Pujols came out against what?
Albert Pujols is one of the few good role models in professional sports. Good bless you Albert Pujols!
“God” (sheesh)
Although we live in Cards territory, my husband is from Boston, so this is a Red Sox household. That said, I pull for the Cards when there is no conflict with the Sox, simply because of Pujols.
