GULF BREEZE, Fla. -- A Panhandle man has been charged with killing and skinning his family dog because he believed it was possessed by the devil.
The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office reports that deputies responded Sunday to a Gulf Breeze home, where 25-year-old Matthew O. Foote had reportedly killed the dog. Investigators say Foote calmly explained that the 7-year-old dachshund-Chihuahua mix was possessed by Satan.

If he sincerely believed the dog was possessed by an evil spitit, and his faith is such that this was his form of exorcism, he will not be convicted. Assuming a good lawyer, that is.
Seems the Constitution is quite specific about freedom of religion.
After all, the Santaria bite the heads off live birds, and cut goat throats as part of their religion.
The Supreme Court ruled their practices were protected by the Constitution.
Florida has weird laws for animals. My nieces husband spent 3 month’s in county for killing his 13 year old cat eaten up by tumors. Could of paid a vet $100 to avoid the troubles.

Because we don’t eat dogs (legally) in the United States. They aren’t considered livestock.
The problem is, how do you tell the difference between demonic possession and the normal breed characteristics of a chihuahua mix?
