Diane Mapes writes: Weve all heard the stories of people keeping outrageous numbers of animals. The Today Show ran a segment on the topic just last week, to coincide with the premiere of Animal Planets new show, Confessions: Animal Hoarders.
But why is it so many of these tales seem to involve women and cats?
There was the elderly woman in Phoenix with 104 cats, 10 of them dead and tucked into freezers; the woman in Greeley, Colo., whose house was condemned after authorities discovered she was harboring 83 felines. Women cat hoarders have been discovered in Citrus Heights, Calif., where a woman and her mother had 60 cats; Orange City, Fla., where rescue workers discovered an unconscious woman surrounded by 59 cats and Piney Flats, Tenn., where a 64-year-old woman was found living in a trailer with 31 cats.
And thats just so far this month.
Is there something that makes women more prone to animal hoarding than men?

How many children did these women have?
Cat farmers......
...they just happen to be very good at cat herding
It’s a P U S S Y thing.
Leave it to MSNBC to tackle the really hard questions facing our country :)
This also explains Obama being elected President.
That said, I'd suggest that dogs, in general, represent more stereotypical male behavior - gluttony, aggressiveness, playfulness with reckless abandon, etc. Cats on the other hand represent more stereotypical female behaviour - cleanliness, gracefulness, and you may even go as far as to say (dare I?) manipulative behavior.
So, I'd guess that females who do not connect with men in general, do connect with the stereotypical female traits found in cats.
Or maybe I'm full of bologna. In which case, pass the Wonder bread and mustard....I'm hungry.
In many of these cases I believe, the person hoarding the cats started with the best of intentions, I know/knew of such a lady.
She was just so upset that the SPCA etc was killing these beautiful animals, that she wanted to do something about it, for years she did a very good job, over time people dumped so many animals on her that she became overwhelmed, did not know how to say no to people, and may have snapped.
How about that woman that was living in her car with 15 cats?
EEEEEEK!
What WAS that?
Like a cockroach with a rolled up newspaper.
Yeah, but you’re not Laz
You really know how to put a guy in his place (skulks away with head hanging low.)
When oil is illegal we’ll all be relying on fifty of these bio-fuel furry space heaters.
the reason they have so many cats is that cats have...kittens.
Here in the Philippines, we finally got mama cat fixed after her 4th litter in four years...24 kittens we had to give away.
Hope it works: We paid to fix two female dogs, and they still have puppies every year...but puppies are easier to give away: our dogs are friendly but make good watch dogs for protection (no guns allowed in the Philippines).
