Para-ordnance P12

Posted on 07/24/2010 6:55:21 PM PDT by blackbart.223

I have a Para-Ordnance P12. There are some that claim they have trouble with jams. I never had a problem with mine. Any comments?

I agree but I grew in the days when Glazers were what you wanted to shoot.

Placement has always been key and getting that additional boost from an expanded and fragmented projectile, that actually stops, somewhere in the body, after bouncing around seems like a good choice.

It just doesn’t make sense to use FMJ, if you can afford Hollow Point. It’s not like you are using Hollows at the range, that would be a little more expensive than necessary for practice.

Bigger holes make more sense to me.

Kinda like the difference between a 5.56 and a .308. I love .308 for it’s multi-use capability and it will make a bigger, rounder hole.

Like the difference between 12 gauge and .410. Pretty sure I am going to shoot 12

First and always.

Yes I agree with all!

Have you ever put the Kimber spring in your Colt?

Most 1911A1s will be pretty interchangeble as to most parts. Sight mounting dovetails, bushings, barrels, links, etc are the items normally fitted to an individual pistol....1911’s can and are hot-rodded by many people that have taken the time to understand the pistols design and tolerances..... See the

www.1911forum.com

for some interesting discussions....and threads on various 1911 model/mfg pistols..

Forgot the Geneva Convention rule. It’s just a rule and doesn’t apply to me or what I feel my requirements are for insuring I live.

Well, that’s an idea. I might just try that to see if it works. I mean, does it solve the Hollow Point issue.

If it solves the Hollow point issue, then it pretty much solves every other load issue.

I think I will try it.

Yeap. I understand. just my own thoughts and feelings.

I’ve never bought hollow point ammo in my life....but I can hit anything I aim at, and don’t feel the need. I have a natural talent for shooting.....and have been known to put all the bullets through the same hole on a paper target to “save the trees....LOLOLOLOL

Pretty much everyone in our family is like you.

I just have a little extra loot and don’t see the difference.

I mean if a hollow point is suppose to do more damage and based on my experience, I believe they will, why not shoot that for self defense.

Expensive for range shooting but even I make concession of economics and shoot the inexpensive Winchesters

Read any of the books by Jerry Kuhnhausen, or Patrick Sweeney, and you will obtain a HUGE knowledge of the M1911A1 platform. There are a few links out there which detail how to build a MEUSOC pistol as well. That’s a badass shootin’ iron to have in the inventory.

Yeah, I just suck at the whole reading thing.

If it’s in bullet points I get it but, theory and all that...I got employees who love that kind of stuff.

I should look into a MEUSOC though. Might be nice and fun.

Polish the load ramp with a Dremel tool small buffer wheel and SemiChrome polish until it’s mirror finish. No problem.

Outstanding! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Sleep well tonight my brother.... for rough men stand the walls of freedom ready to do violence in your defense.

May they always have JMB’s pistol at their side.

“I mean if a hollow point is suppose to do more damage and based on my experience, I believe they will, why not shoot that for self defense.”

OK except if you have an accidental discharge (yeah I know never ever should happen, but does) and you hit yourself!

I cringe at the thought of hitting myself with a hollow point!

“1911s are notorious for requiring much more break-in effort than other pistol designs.”

Not so much anymore, I had none in either my Series 70 or Series 80, none in any of my SAs, and none in my TR. breakin jams nowadays are a rare occurance in any quality made pistol.

With today’s manufacturing technologies, a pistol with fewer/simpler parts and way less complexity is possible. The glock style lockup lug was an ingenious improvement. So was the hi-power style barrel link and extended feed ramp. As was the sig210 inverted slide rails. imo, the 1911 grip safety was/is a travesty. There are better ways to achieve a drop safe handgun.
