This is not an important question and you can ignore it if you wish.
I have been listening to Rush Limbaugh since 1998 ( only when I can of course), but for the life of me cannot understand why he does the following ( I am sure he has reasons but I've never heard him explain it ) :
* When he mentions Jesse Jackson, he never used the name : "Jesse Jackson", but almost always says -- The Reverend Jackson, in a very strange tone, as if trying to sound very respectful ( I can't quite describe it. Experienced listeners will understand ).
* Where on earth is Rio Linda and why does he refer to that place everytime he mentions some important FACTOID that we all should know...
* Why does he mock the Former Secretary of Labor's name everytime he uses it as in ROBERT REICHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ( lasting about 10 seconds ).
Let's start with the above 3 first and I'm sure I have other Limbaugh mannerisms I'd like to ask about later.
Thanks.
It is Rush's play-on-words for IGOR.
That's no way to talk about your mother.
One day well hear about HG going to prison (and loving it) for threatening the new Mrs Rush or some other bizarre behavior.
Just because YOU had a favorable experience in prison doesn't mean anyone else would.
Further, it is considered good manners to ping someone when you refer to them.
Even when you are gay and have full-blown AIDS. Surely you can still type my name.
It's intriguing that any mockery of Limbaugh bothers you so much.
Are you perhaps having sexual fantasies about him?
Rush is making fun of Rio Linda, a town near Sacramento which is populated by a lot of people who live in trailers, and who, for example, believe that professional wrestling is “legitimate”.
He’s making fun of their “supposed” lack of smarts. It’s all in jest.
He does that to insulate himself from the Rio Linda types.
This one developed because Rush saw Reich introduce himself by stressing the soft "ch" ending with such exaggeration as to be annoying. I believe Reich did/does it to get people to stop pronouncing his name with the hard "ck" ending, reminding people of Nazi Germany. But Rush back when said that he heard that, rolled his eyes and ever since, pronounces it over and above to yes, mock Reich.
Thanks — I remember now. Dang, we’re getting old! That was a long time ago.
Rush is mocking the way Reich pronounces his last name with the emphasis on the end........REI-SSHHHHHHHHH-A
For a period of time after the 2000 elections, he substituted a county or town in Florida, where the voters claimed they accidentally voted for Pat Buchanan. But the people in Rio Linda were complaining because they were being replaced so he went back to using Rio Linda. I am a long time listener. Since 1990.
Algore - Igor.
There was some skit that Rush’s voice impression guy Paul Shanklin did where Bill Clinton was cast as Dr. Frankenstein and Al Gore was Igor. The Igor character was “Algore”, and it just kind of stuck in Rush’s lexicon.
Yes it is amazing. I remember when he first lost his hearing and everyone knew something was wrong but he didn’t tell anyone about his deafness till he knew he was going to get the implant. He kept saying there was nothing wrong. I noticed a slight change in his speech. He would mispronounce words more often and not correct himself. But it is just amazing that he carried on totally deaf and no one knew. I have so much admiration for this man. He is truly remarkable.
Rush’s ego trip is a ruse that pokes fun at liberal broadcasters.
It’s also a prediction of sorts of what liberal pundits will say whenever conservatives happen to trump them. The lefties will always trot out the “puppetmaster Rush and his robotic, brainwashed listeners” narrative (which is actually a Leninist projection - accuse your enemy of your own sins).
Rush used this to great effect shortly after Obama took office. Obama himself pulled out this very narrative I just mentioned, and Rush took all the heat and just laughed in the Democrats’ stupid faces, because it gave him more listeners and it distracted the Dems from doing anything productive (read: truly harmful).
I can only remember 4. Roxy, Michelle, Marta and Kathryn. Who was the 5th?
Jealous?
Hey! I resemble that remark. But actually we are hillbillies. The rest of the country has rednecks.
JJ actually seems to have similar verbal idiosyncrasies similar to WFB.
Well, if you choose to interpret it as such. As for me, it's very obvious that there is not enough mustard to cover that hotdog, to borrow from someone's phraseology. I think that the man loves everything about himself.
While you asking, why don’t you ask about Dan’s Bake Sale? If you are a Rush fan then this is a must-know.
