This I know because I happened to catch his explanation of this event one day.

A caller named "Dan" from Colorado IIRC, who told Rush Limbaugh that he was photocopying a coworker's subscription to the Limbaugh Letter. The reason was that Dan's wife was not a fan of the show, and would not allow him to use the the family budget to subscribe to the Letter.

Rush light-heartedly informed Dan that he disapproves his photocopying printed material, and offhandedly suggested that Dan organize a bake sale to raise funds for a subscription, spoofing then-recent bake sales to raise funds to reduce the national debt by the Slick One.

And guess what : IT HAPPENED with thousands of people showing up in support of the Bake Sale !!

I know a story when I catch it on the radio.
