OK, now I have found some news articles that say that spilled oil from a motorcycle crash before the peloton reached the area is likely the culprit in the slippery conditions. Really awful. Those guys didn't have a chance. Farrar is out with a fractured elbow. Garmin said some of their guys fell twice on the descent. Apparently about 60 riders fell.
I am so sad to see Farrar out. He had a legitimate shot at a stage win this year!
