I found a calendar that I have been keeping and looked ahead. I have a note every 2 weeks in August to plant lettuce. Something I read must have prompted me to write that. I looks like I take July off, and then start re-planting cool crops in August. First frost around here can come as early as the first week in October. I suppose that I treat spinach the same.

I don’t think I’ll ever have any zucchini. Germination has been dreadful, but I think I’ve been losing the seeds to birds. After the rain quit yesterday I found 2 seeds totally exposed lying on top of the mound. I pushed them back down, but I’ll have to plant more.

I have 2 yellow squash sprouted out of at least 15 planted. That’s enough, but it has been a surprise because those plants are supposed to be so easy to grow. Next year, I’m going to buy starts for some of these veggies at the garden store.

I need more beds. My lettuce is holding up, but when I do harvest the last of it, I’ll have to leave that spot dormant until Aug., if I am to have any space to replant.

How deep are you planting the zucchini? I put mine a full inch down, and tried not to let them dry out, or get too wet. (I know, I know.)
;-)

The birds only messed with a few. I planted 9 seeds, and have 5 plants; more than enough.
