Scythian - Since Dec 29, 1998
I've given my opus a few times but always came a crawlin' back. I figure if they go by "join date" we old timers will go first ...
So any active Freepers out there have joined dates more ancient than mine?
I have been around since Jan 21, 1998. Haven’t found any board that is better.
It's very simple, if you have a state or a district that's overwhelmingly Democrat (60% or more) your best bet on getting a place-holder so that you can control the legislative body is to run a Democrat as a Republican.
Else, you're just wasting your money and everybody's time ~ that could best be spent elsewhere.
You notice, of course, that this argument EXCLUDES the Fuzziscuzzis of this world. She wasn't even a good Democrat.
In short, Free Republic first attracted Republicans who like to win, and Conservatives. From 99 to about 01 we had a crowd who feared the UN was bringing in an army. From 02 to 06 we had a bunch who thought we should run a RINO at the head of the ticket (the Giuliani crowd, and although we all respect Mr. Giuliani, and consider him an asset to America, he's not Conservative enough for us to support ~ except maybe as Senator or Governor of New York.
His fans got purged.
The Mitbots have a similar problem with their boy ~ but they're not purged yet.

Other than Jim Robinson (November 28th, 1997) - I've seen one that's one day older than you...

There may be others.
Since Aug 25, 1998.
I never can remember, but I was here before there was a ‘here.’

Okay, I don’t usually brag about being the oldest person in the room, but ... well, I am the oldest person in the room.
“I belonged long before that with another name. Im sad that I changed it.”
.
Lots of us were here in ‘97 but didn’t realize how fragile our identities were. I lost mine when I tried to change my password after compuserve stole my cs ID and gave it to someone else with an earlier CS sign-up, and I couldn’t retrieve the message Jim sent to the CS email.
Now someone else is using my original FR handle, but with a much later sign-up date.
Lots of the summer ‘97 crowd bailed out when ‘banning fever’ struck some time in ‘99.
Back before there was a ‘here’ we were a cozy little group. It was like if you were on the thread late at night and you had to say ‘is anybody here besides me’.
I don’t believe we had individual threads back thing but we just posted on one big thread about whatever we wanted to say.
But even tho we all remember the major trolls of that day, I believe those have been surpassed by some of the trolls we have now.
Ahhh! The good old days!
“From 99 to about 01 we had a crowd who feared the UN was bringing in an army.”

Instead of bringing in an army, they just brought in a Kenyan to be president...

Born on date: 3/7/1998
Not before you, but someone congratulated me a few days ago on my 10-year anniversary.
I wish I had known about FR back then
*hi girlfriend*
November 28 ‘97 was when the software was changed, so lots of freepers will show up for that date, even if they were here before that.
August 17, 1934. I began as an Alf Landon Democrat. (There were only a couple of us who knew about the internet back then)
My date is 12/17/99 but I was here long before that day. I was following the hearings on Chinagate and went to Drudge who had a link to FR.com. I was following USA vs. Clinton Day ..... Molly, when did you and Miss Marple and someone else start that daily thread?, and finally had to jump in and register. I went to the March for Justice on Halloween in D.C. and got enough nerve to start speaking out against the clinton machine.

Yep, I bet it took a barrel of Scotch to get on back then!
