A two-year bowl ban and a loss of more than 20 football scholarships are among the sanctions that the NCAA has dealt USC, a source with knowledge of the situation said Wednesday.

The NCAA, the governing body for collegiate sports, informed USC of its decision after a four-year investigation regarding allegations centered on former football player Reggie Bush and former basketball player O.J. Mayo. The NCAA could make its decision public as early as today.

USC officials would not confirm that the school had received the NCAA's report. Asked if USC had heard from the NCAA, Athletic Director Mike Garrett said: "We are looking at things right now. That's about all I can say."

USC spokesmen said the university would address the situation when the NCAA makes the report public.

Limited recruiting contacts, probation and forfeiture of victories are also among the penalties regarded as possibly in play. USC sources, who requested anonymity

It's about freaking time.

Pete was always a hand greasing lib. He built the program by letting it all hang loose. Everyone just looked the other way and cheered.

He got out just in time didn't he?

Did Reggie’s family report the USC cash as income for those tax years?

Yes and no...Banning from a bowl game doesn't seem like much but HS students considering USC will not take to that very favorably and thus it dampens the recruiting effort. and make no mistake, USC is a juggernaut when it comes to recruiting.

The NCAA needs to start cracking down. Let’s see what slap on the wrist they give Michigan.

I’m shocked that it’s more then a hand slap....I have predicted repeatedly that they wouldn’t do a damned thing to them....neither USC nor Notre Dame EVER gets any kind of serious punishment. I think the NCAA must have realized if they did nothing yet again, then that would be the end of the NCAA....you can’t go around trying to destroy football programs (namely the SEC) and then not take some serious action against a school that had major, MAJOR violations. And of course, that’s just my own little personal opinion!

A second thought on “bowl banning”. Yes face time and prestige are important. A college coach once told me that the most important but hidden advantage in “bowl games” was the extra practice (two weeks?) the team got. The ability to coach, drill and work the students often carried over into the fall season where the results would hopefully show.

I think this is sad - it hurts the kids there now, not the ones who cheated.

Here’s an idea - how about the Athletic Department sues Reggie, his parents and the company that put them up in that house. Let them cover the costs that the school will incur over this.

Just out of curiosity, if the NCAA governs all collegiate sports, what does the AAU govern?

THANKS GOP_Raider for doing the PING!

Do not see you all that often, and I thought it was GOPUSA, and it is GOP_Raider.

Anyways, this is going to REALLY hurt USC and its recruiting efforts as well.

Thanks! I was actually dating someone who turned out to be a pretty flaming liberal for the past few months, so that kind of curtailed any FR time I may have had. To make matters worse, I’ve been fighting off a serious case of mono for the past month. Lesson learned, I suppose.

The USC football program will lose 10 scholarships a season for three seasons and that will cost ‘em!!!! Recruiting is a numbers game.
