In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
defalcation \dee-fal-KAY-shun\ noun
1 : the act or an instance of embezzling
2 : a failure to meet a promise or an expectation.
Example sentence:
"'She made off with the money, an act of defalcation that disqualifies her from receiving a bankruptcy discharge,' the judge ruled."
--Orlando Sentinel, March 21, 2004
Etymology:
"The tea table shall be set forth every morning with its customary bill of fare, and without any manner of defalcation." No reference to embezzlement there! This line, from a 1712 issue of Spectator magazine, is an example of the earliest, and now archaic, sense of "defalcation," which is simply defined as "curtailment." "Defalcation" is ultimately from the Latin word "falx," meaning "sickle" (a tool for cutting), and it has been a part of English since the 1400s. It was used early on of monetary cutbacks (as in "a defalcation in their wages"), and by the 1600s it was used of most any sort of financial reversal (as in "a defalcation of public revenues"). Not till the mid-1800s, however, did "defalcation" refer to breaches of trust that cause a financial loss, or, specifically, to embezzlement.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
They were going to curtail the tea table! Those bastards.
e.g. "In his response to the Gulf oil spill, Obama basically defalcated the bed."
I think NO ONE is more upset than I, sounds better.
i am hearing there were rumors of long time gay bath house membership by both Rahm and O in the Chicago? anyone seen anything?
You are correct.
I saw this last week......very interesting.
One of the things that we do when a foster dog barks at night is to put a sheet or blanket over the crate to make it darker and more isolated. Make sure you don't reward the barking by responding and giving the dog attention.
At night, we keep our foster dog (sometimes dogs) in a crate in a separate bedroom (VRWCboy's old room that is now "the dog room") with the door closed. If the dog is barking, sometimes we will stand outside the door and wait for a while and when the dog barks again we will bang loudly on the door and yell "Quiet!" in order to equate a startling unpleasant noise as a response to barking. Only after several minutes of silence will we then go in and talk to the dog and give it attention. Sometimes we will then take the dog outside to see if it needs to take care of toilet business, then encourage the dog with positive reinforcement back into the crate. Reward calm and silence with attention; do not reward barking.
A+ for you. It would be sweet. Foster dog update: only barked for 3.5 hours on and off last night. That’s progress.
Good morning dixie!
I had this same discussion with the hygienist at the dentist office this week. I said they are incompetent in every capacity, why would you want them to fail in another industry where they have zero knowledge? She finally agreed.
I don’t know how Matalin can stand looking at Serpenthead. That is true love, I guess. He was on fi-ya about the mess in his home state.
A+ for you. The truth will out every time.
A+ for you!
Brilliant! I love when a plan comes together...
Almost forgot your A+!
A because you just cracked me up, using my favorite profane remark, though I preface it with rat.
Ozero’s fault. A for you.
