Thanks for the infor on the Packard Bldg.

happinesswithoutpeace,
I respectfully ask you not to post me.
I tried graciously to tell you to stop spamming my FReepmail and not to post to me.
You are the reason paulcy left FR. Paulycy was a wonderful poster and I, and others miss him.
I know we both were stalked by you and we didn’t like it.
We asked you to STOP and you didn’t.
Please respect my wishes and refrain from posting to me, K?
Thank you.

Salvation Mountain is on the old dismantled and abandoned Fort Dunlap World War II Marine training base. The artist/tagger does not own the property. He is a squatter. On “your” land. ;-D

Thank goodness cities now have preservation societies to lobby for/restore historic buildings. They're not always successful though.

You’re welcome. The Kahn design revolutionized commercial building techniques.

Let me guess..... This “arts” group is fully funded by tax “donations” and foundations and local “support the arts” government spending

The older houses and historic preservation is one reason I've always enjoyed traveling around the midwest. I visited Lafayette, Indiana, just across the river from Purdue, and it's Historic Section is outstanding.
When the merchants did well they built fancy homes on the high ground away from the river and really had some beautiful overlooks.
The likes of a Brush Park won't be seen again, I fear.

Have you been east to Ashville, NC. The amazing Biltmore Estate [250 rooms] is quite something to see. The gardens are wonderful.
When the captains of industry came to build summer cottages in Newport, RI ...they tried to outdo each other.
One of my favorite "famous" houses in the US is Mark Twain's Nook Farm.

I've never had a chance to tour the Biltmore site although I've seen and read much about it. What an army of servants and workers the place must have needed!
In addition to Twain's house I found an online site of Historic Buildings of Connecticut. Beautiful places!
Twain's old place shows what $131,000 would buy back then.
