I just switched from pro life to pro choice because I am a liberal who likes watching babies die and from pro gun to anti gun because I don't give a crap about my property or the safety of my family. I've always supported amnesty for illegal aliens. Because I profit off helping them steal identities..
The landscaper here doesn’t use the weedeater until last, either. I don’t know how big this place is (acreage) but the only time there is more than one man on duty is when it’s time to prune the trees and buzz the sage.
I hate the smell of all of it with the accompanying diesel and/or gas fumes.
Yes, it does smell bad. Today we had the windows closed, anyway.
It’s supposed to get down to the 60’s tonight, which is good, and only 80 tomorrow, which means I have to wear a sweater, but that’s OK.
There is also a breeze, but it was a WIND last night, and it kept waking me up. When I went out to get the mail earlier, I almost turned around and came back for a long-sleeved shirt.
We’ve crossed paths in other threads, I think I owe you a keyboard.
There’s more to the story, it takes place in two different time periods.
One is “present frame” and the other is referred to as “Four months prior”.
It is a work in progress.
Complete with typos, poor sentence structure, and mish mosh paragraphs in need of editing.
Loooooong Freepmail, with spoilers.
Something that might help while reading the story is to keep in mind that I write while listening to music.
(Breaking Benjamin “Dear Agony” for this one, that album has held influence on parts of this tale..)
You are truly a multi-tusker!
LOL, maybe.
It just occurred to me that we never did defined or write out what the SLAVER incident was exactly, how it happened or how it was resolved.
I remember that we did brainstorm it a bit, made postulations and suggestions, and then backburnered it.
Ooops...
Hey, tusks look good on me.
As do fangs.
Can one have both fangs and tusks?
I’ll take your word!
I’m getting getting tired, so I need to head for the floor.
Interesting. You've given your mechanical life an ambition, the safeguarding of her charges.
In the creation of my android, Pearl, she started out as an ambitious give-and-take program used for voice communications in a large system of interconnected personal data assistants.
As her activities grew exponentially, and more circuitry was added to give her new capacity, she began rewriting her operating system, giving new feedback loops that helped her to understand and thus better serve her human charges.
It functioned, more or less, as a kind of curiosity. She was driven to grow in capability in order to understand humans.
Her investigations and developments pushed her into more and more avenues of greater speed and throughput, eventuating in her design of a compact processing unit that could be housed in an android body.
But the "desire" to "serve" was at the front of it all. Later this became an attempt to emulate humans in all regards, appearance, behavior, and ultimately the self-serving purposes that all humans have; self-preservation and personal satisfaction.
What an android brain determines is satisfying, and how it determines it, is a subject for philosophers. To me, the attempt to emulate humans in all ways ended in her defining her purposes in human terms. In a sense, she became driven by human appetites, and not necessarily the best ones, either.
Accordingly, I have suggested that her story represents a cautionary tale.
The sign on my front lawn will tell the muggers that this home is armed but the guy “You” next door is not. Now who do you think is going to get robbed?
What don’t you understand about the word “Illegal”? One can come in to the US the correct was, just like millions before, or they can stay home and quit over crowding our jails, schools, and hospitals! Go Home!
I'm guessing you're referring to our initial attempts to colonize the upper atmosphere of Venus, using modified versions of our spiderbots to mine the surface in various ways.
In my scenario, which is fabricated as much for a graphic novel as for any other purpose, those expeditionary robotic miners, representing the apex of our high-temperature and high-pressure technology, were beset by curious equipment breakdowns and failures. Ultimately it was discovered that against all probability, an alien species was alive and surviving, with difficulty, on Earth's twin world!
In my scenario, they were the remnant of a crew of spacefarers whose ship had been damaged in transiting too close to our sun. For their purposes and their physiology, Venus was a better haven than Earth would have been.
Somehow they managed to eke out survival in the most unremittingly harsh conditions imaginable.
But their survival was a very near and difficult thing, until the bounty they discovered in our mining robots! With their native abilities and intellect, our technology designed for those conditions allowed them to leapfrog centuries of development time, and rapidly become formidable adversaries almost before we knew they even existed!
And that leads up to where you begin your militaristic adventures.
Thanks for sharing! I love stuff like this. And I do believe I’ve had a few “new keyboard” moments on FR so I’m sure you were the cause of one of them. :0) I’d love to read more sometime.
Thanks again! Made for a pleasant evening.
Good morning! 4 kids have a swim meet this morning, I’m a judge, and the 4 little byos come along because they can’t stay home by themselves. At least I don’t have to take the dog!
I had a cat who had a toy that was his baby, and it was a riot to see him pack that thing around and clean it. I HAD to wash it periodically, and usually had to wear leather gauntlets to get it away from him. He cleaned it when it came out of the dryer, just to make sure it was soothed properly after its “drying” ordeal.
I really laughed at this Lolcat!
It is possible.
Cumbersome, but possible.
