[history]
I just switched from pro life to pro choice because I am a liberal who likes watching babies die and from pro gun to anti gun because I don't give a crap about my property or the safety of my family. I've always supported amnesty for illegal aliens. Because I profit off helping them steal identities..

I, for one, would love to see who you have in your family lines, especially DP’s, as I have so many ancestors from Europe (Prussia, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France, etc.) It would be fun to find out if our lines meet up somewhere.
Yours and mine may meet up closer to home. :o])

Because DP’s last name is unusual, it’s easier to find his relations in general sources than mine. I’ll just need to get a few names from my father-in-law. Maybe I can find the Cherokees on the Dawes Roll, too, and then we could get tribal cards for DP and the kids. The Coast Guard took Anoreth’s word about it - why shouldn’t a terribly pale, redhaired girl be Cherokee? - but documentation would be helpful for getting Bill or Tom college scholarships.

Many times in genealogy, the last name is the name of the castle (land baron,) county (state) or kingdom. So Eleanor de Chatellerault means that Eleanor was born in Chatellerault, (castle, manor or barony) in the state of Poillou, France.
With a name like DP’s, that really shouldn’t be hard to trace.

Ohyah...since the Cherokees were one of the first tribes to mingle with whites, there should also be records of some kind to back up the lineage for several generations.
Nowadays, with DNA so prevalent (the military takes the DNA of all new recruits) if push came to shove, the Native American heritage will show up there.

I’d have to ask the mom type person about the faily history, if there are any such odd names there.

Melungen.
(Unsure on spelling)
They were typical ‘half-indian crossbreeds’ from around the time of the American Revolution.

In what area? Names are often the result of ignorance, meaning that (of course) slaves were given a name but were called by the last name of their master.
Earlier, when the original settlers came, the Indian names were often blended with the the white names.

110 in the sun here. Ash wants to gallop around in the house instead of going outside! There should be some shade by now at the pool where the kids are; there were trees on the correct side for it to get more shady as the evening goes on.

Not so much a name as a descriptor.
Used similar to “Caucasian” and other such descriptors today.
Only back then it meant you were likely shuunned.

Go to an anti-Mormon/Catholic thread if you want to know what shuunned really means...

shuunned.. I guess it is pronounced as ‘Shooned’, not to be confused with Stuned.

Some people had trouble earlier.
Some could only get on with a Mac, others with only a PC.
Weird.

The editor of The Local Paper. It’s online, so I can compose and tweak until I’m ready to send.
I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut when I see injustice, and I’ve had it up to my eyes with beauracratic red tape and I’m gonna take a bite out of the big boys.
I’ll post it when it’s ready for emailing.
