MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) ― Police say a pit bull bought on Craigslist attacked two children in New Hampshire within 24 hours of its purchase.

Police say the 80-pound dog attacked a 12-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy on Saturday in Manchester. The girl suffered bites to her arms while the boy was bitten on the face and needed 10 stitches.

That breed of dog out to be outlawed... really! :-)

No, I’m not kidding. There’s one across the street from us. The people who own it say it’s the best dog they could ever have and the little ole lady and her son (an older son) who lives there love it. And it’s quite nice with them. When the dog gets out once in a while, she’ll hollar at the dog and go and get it and it minds here quite well.

BUT, let me tell you, when the owners are not around and the dog gets out, you better watch out for your life ... LOL ...

I’ve been there before and that dog will come over and attack you if you look at it cross-eyed, or are even just walking down the street. I have this big and strong stick on the porch and when I see that dog out there (and he does get out from time to time) I take that stick in my hand and fend the dog off. And don’t turn your back on that dog, because he’ll rush you. I hold him back (even in my own yard) with that stick and swing at him if he gets too close to me. Boy, he’s got a real mean look in his eye, too... :-)

It’s not my only experience with pit bulls either... on other occasions, I’ve always seen them as “trouble” (spelled with capital letters). They never seem to be trouble (for the most part) with their owners, themselves. But, look out if you’re not the owner and the owner is not around... you’re in trouble, then — for sure... LOL ...

And just the other day (I think yesterday or the day before) I was driving down the street and about two blocks from the house, I saw a neighbor who had a pit bull chained up in his front yard (he also had a real mean look on his face, too... he would bite your head off if he had a chance).

BUT, get this! That owner knew there would be trouble if his dog got loose. You should have seen the size of that chain on that dog. No kidding! that chain was huge. I’ve used chain for towing cars and I swear — the chain links on that chain, holding that dog in the yard were bigger than the chain links I have used to tow cars ... LOL ...

Pit bulls don’t have any business being in the city, I don’t think...

I know the problems with Craigslist... but in this case (this story) the real problem here — is the pit bull... LOL ..

They simply shouldn’t be allowed in the city... that’s all... no matter where they’re sold...

And if they’re out in the country and someone has that kind of dog, then that’s fine, because usually people out in the country have guns handy and they’ll shoot the dog if he’s a problem.

Yeah right!

Craig’s list isn’t so bad if you do it locally only. I would never put one on there if I couldn’t meet the person that was interested. I already have five dogs and three are rescues. At least I didn’t dump her at the dog pound or let her starve. I kept her for a year before giving her up. She had all her shots and was very well taken care of while I had her. She got a very good home or I would have kept her.

I don’t have a major issue with pit bulls myself. I have a real problem with idiots with pit bulls.

You were saying ...

I don’t have a major issue with pit bulls myself. I have a real problem with idiots with pit bulls.

Yeah, pit bulls have attracted a fair share of idiots for owners. But, here's the problem. You can be the same kind of idiot owner with a (let's say) Dashchund and it's not going to produce big problems. And then, maybe you have a St. Bernard and you're an idiot owner and there's not too much of a problem for others around you. Or perhaps there's an idiot owner who has a Chihuahua -- what the heck is that Chihuahua going to do to you? LOL ...

And furthermore, with the neighbor across the street that I was describing... they're nice people and they're not idiots by any means, but the dog manages to get out once in a while (we've got some weenie dogs and they have managed to get out a time or two, also -- so I know how that goes...).

The problem isn't the owner of the pit bull across the street -- the problem is that dog -- when the owners are not around... It's then -- that I'm ready to kill a pit bull (and I'm serious... there...) -- because when that dog is loose and I'm outside, I know it's going to come down to either him or me lives -- if we get into it... the real problem is the pit bull...

Right off the top I would want to check out the buyer or a seller.

You can check out anybody you want on Craig's List.

It's just free.

If the dog is eighty pounds it is not a pit bull. It’s more likely that it is an American bull dog or some sort of mix.
From The dog Breed Info Center “ A very common misconception is that APBT’s are muscle bound (viscous) hulks that weigh in around 85 pounds (39 kg.) and this is generally not the majority, Most of the APBT’s that Are that large have been crossed with another breeds.”

What percentage of pit bull owners are idiots? There may not be a reliable test whereby this could be determined in advance.
Apparently the pit bull owners that can with some certainty be tagged as idiots are those whose dog has attacked someone, but we don’t know the total number of pit bull owners, making it impossible to calculate the relevant ratio. Likely there are idiotic owners whose pit bull has not yet revealed their owners’ true state of idiocy by attacking someone.
The remedy is to somehow identify in advance which pit bull owners are NOT idiots. We then would then know which pit bull dogs are harmless, and that would be a very good thing.

You sure are right on checking out the seller..When my daughter got her standard poodle, we traveled to Bay City to the breeders home...The bitch and sire were on premises and you could see how the pup interacted with another pup still unsold and the temperament of the parents also the breeding conditions of the dogs, cleanliness, etc... It was 1 1/2 hour drive but well worth it...she got a great dog...

The people I got my Jack Russell from loved the dog and he was well taken care of but they lived right along a highway and couldn’t let him out to run free at all.

I’ve got a fully fenced half acre with lots of bushes, trees and grass. He’s really bulked up since I got him last September.
