Remember the talk that the Big Ten would take 12-18 months to decide whether to expand?
An accelerated timetable has emerged, according to sources familiar with the process.
High-ranking Big Ten representatives will meet Sunday afternoon in Washington D.C. to discuss expansion. The timing and location of the session make sense considering the Association of American Universities is holding its semi-annual meetings in D.C. from Sunday-Tuesday, and all 11 Big Ten schools are AAU members.

See my post #39. I’m not sure how much clout Tech has right now, but Texas and A&M will always be in the same conference.
What about Boise State?
You might be overlooking the fact that for a decade, the Big Ten had a “Texas” team in Iowa City.
Might as well include UNI.
If the Big Ten went to more teams, would they have E/W or N/S and a Playoff??
Big Ten teams can’t play all the teams in the conference, so a playoff might be worthwhile.
The mediocre performance of the Big Ten is mostly responsible for that.
The story we’ve always heard in Columbus is that it would be East-West with a playoff.
Which would put Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan in the same conference. Not sure how well that would play out.
Would probably suit these idiot Buckeye addicts just fine. As long as they have their precious Michigan game as the season finale.
If the 12th team was east of Ohio, I would expect the divisions to be:
East: Indiana, Michigan, Michigan St., Ohio St., Penn St., (new school)
West: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin.
If the 12th team was west of Ohio, I would expect the divisions to be:
East: Indiana, Michigan, Michigan St., Ohio St., Penn St., Purdue.
West: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Wisconsin, (new school).
The problem with the first scenario is that it splits up the Indiana-Purdue rivalry. The problem with both is that it lumps all the best football programs in the East (much like the Big XII South) so the conference championship game has less sizzle.
I don’t know how you’d do North-South. Maybe they could do like the ACC and draw up conferences that make no damn sense whatsoever.
Eeek! Bite your tongue!! The Longhorns are just fine right where they are. It'll never happen. They do not want to experience my wrath. Lol.
I don't know how this would affect conferences re-alignments even if it is true, but I am just curious..
The ‘horns would be welcome.
And it would be fun to hear that Texas drawl in the Big Ten.
Don’t forget the number of coaches that were Hayden Fry understudies at Iowa. Texas coaches can teach us a few things...
I think that’s right. Now if my Aggies will only start winning again!!
To me, the thing about Texas and A&M is that we have a family thing going on. We try to kick each other’s rear ends, but there is NOTHING cooler than when Texas and A&M go into the big game undefeated, and there’s nothing, not even Texas-OU, that’s as big as when Texas and A&M play each other for all the marbles.
Make no mistake, I ALWAYS want to beat the Aggies, but this video shows what we think of each other when the chips are down:

I would never want to be in a conference without the Aggies.
I think Pitt will join the Big Ten.
They have been building athletic facilities here like crazy for the last 8 years and recently ramped up the practice facilities up behind the hill.
Jamie Dixon won’t like it until he sees the TV numbers.
Besides, in spite of March Madness, football rules the NCAA and Pitt Football will benefit from being in the Big Ten and bringing back the rivalry with Penn State.
I hope that you're right. I miss those Pitt-PSU games! If the Big Ten also gets Rutgers, or another eastern team, then you've got the basis for an "eastern division" within the Big Ten -- or whatever they will call it.
