Volcano could mean cooling, acid rain

If Iceland's active volcano gets even more active, Icelanders and air travelers won't be the only ones impacted. Gases from past large volcanoes have actually lowered Earth's temperatures, triggered lung ailments, caused acid rain and thinned our protective ozone layer.

The Eyjafjallajokull volcano isn't there yet. "This is not like Pinatubo. So far the scale is not big enough to have a global effect," Hans Olav Hygen, a climate researcher at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, said in reference to the 1991 eruption in the Philippines.

But the potential is there. The new eruption is 10 times more powerful than another nearby last month, threw up a cloud of ash nearly seven miles high and closed down air traffic across northern Europe.

Right--couldn't have global cooling, now, could we?

Speaking of nationalization, I keep waiting for him to take over the coal industry--other than cap&tax--justification for which would be safety.

Gases from past large volcanoes have actually lowered Earth's temperatures

Uh oh, that won't be lucrative for Global Warming futures.

Al Gore sues the Earth for unfair and monopolistic competition.

Hmmmmm...didn't Al use them all up by offsetting the 'carbon footprint' of his Nashville mansion???

Haven’t you heard? Volcanic eruptions are caused by global warming. Any cooling can be traced back to Republicans driving SUVs.

The article fals to mention that everytime the long named volcano erupts, it melts the ice of the neighboring one and it goes off. The neighboring one is the real problem.

How long before MSLSD will have someone on to explain that volcanos erupt because of global warming.

Think about it global warming, all that heat going into the earth, has to come out somewhere ;-).

Who said they can't have it BOTH WAYS? It both heats and cools... what could be simpler?

Even algore understands THAT! Natural laws can be amended as needed, just like the Constitution.

Actually the real danger is not just the Hekla might go off, but that the fissure could be extensive and erupt for months at a time. The Laki Fissure event of 1783 had just such behavior and caused terrible problem for Iceland and also in Europe. See the link below for more information about this famous event.
