Fred Grandy (a.k.a Gopher from "The Love Boat) and Andy Parks are out. FishbowlDC sources have confirmed and DCRTV (www.dcrtv.com) is reporting that WMAL's (630 AM) duo has been fired. Grandy is a former Republican member of Congress.
It won't happen immediately -- their end date is still up in the air. The news has been circulating at the station all day long. Word has it that corporate-wide cuts of the most expensive employees are necessary to save money.
Station manager Paul Duckworth did not return a phone request for comment at FBDC press time.
It was bad. Plante isn’t suited for a “team” format. He’s great on his own and would have to change his whole style to fit in as a morning team. The whole show sounded strained with Grandy fighting for airtime and Nehman completely non-existent. I miss Andy.
dcrtv.com has a rumor of Andy going to WBAL. Good for me, but would leave out a lot of DC-area listeners.
Was never a fan of Grandy and Andy. Andy yes, Grandy no. Since I don’t listen I missed it.
I can’t imagine Chris having to suffer Grandy.
I sent a message to one of the advertisers, suggesting they listen to the new show....since I wasn’t going to
WBAL lost me when they dropped Rush Limbaugh and started carrying Orioles games instead
ecch
WCBM - I like the morning show and the Tom Marr show, which I listen to instead of Plante
Plante is getting less airtime than Austin Hill on WMAL.
How the f*&% did THAT happen?
I’m so depressed I can’t tell you.
I popped two huge Advil this morning, just to get me through Plante’s 1½ hours — the fastest 1½ hours on earth. I thought his 2½ hours with Grandy went well.
The Planteman NEEDS to be by himself for the full 3 hours, though...
RE:NEW 630 WMAL WEEK DAY SCHEDULE, STARTING ON APRIL 26TH
All this after the WMAL Insider festival where I got to see Andy for the first time.
Anyway - was very surprised when I turned on the radio this am.
I think this may be a sucessful and fun time slot ala Curtis (guardian angel - SLIWA) and (Ron) Kuby (whose mommy is a commie) who were on WABC 770 am in NYC for a number of years.
It was good visiting with you at the Sunday event.
Scarborough Finally Smells the Coffee
Note that Citadel is trying to figure out how to get Joe a three-hour show.
Interesting...
So, in a few months the schedule will change to possibly this:
Plante & Nehman 5-9a
Scarborough & Mika 9-12p
Rush 12-3p
Hannity 3-6p
Levin 6-9p
On a side show, I’m not a fan of Joe’s, and, in fact, I find Mika Brzezinski far more refreshing and — GASP! — even more conservative than Joe in some areas. It’s sad when I see myself agreeing more with Mika than with Joe.
It PAINS me to see Plante so early in the morning...
Well, that seems to be all we've got now!

Confirmed: Grandy Gone From WMAL
I listened just a few minutes this morning and quickly determined that Plante's brand of very dry humor/cynicism/irony simply isn't my cup of tea for early mornings -- even though I liked him a lot when he was in the 10 a.m. spot.
Moreover, I also thought the Plante-Grandy mix of last week worked reasonably well. Not too bad!
But today it seems that the pre-noon WMAL sked is rudderless -- drifting in stormy waters, with no land in sight.
In particular, I'd say Plante's pairing with Brian Neuman (sp?) isn't exactly a match made in Heaven. I'll bet the station's ratings will soon sink even lower than the most recent Grandy-Andy level. Therefore, it's probably a safe bet that the current line-up won't last for long.
Agreed, Hawthorn.
The silent war against conservative radio is on. We don’t hear about but the left is pushing hard to run patriotism, conservative thinking, and Christianity off the air, out of the public, and out of the US. Before radio was freed up from political pressure, it was all tunes and soundbites. We are headed back to that again. Leftists and America’s brianwashed youth do not listen to radio much less AM radio.
From DCRTV.com — 5/18/10
Chris Plante will return to his 9 - Noon slot on 630 WMAL starting tomorrow, Wed., May 19, 2010. (AMEN!!!!!!!!!)
Also tomorrow morning, Fred Grandy will return with Bryan Nehman for a new show called “The Grandy Group”, starting at 5am until 9am on WMAL.
No sign of Andy Parks.
Fred's a sharp businessman....I bet he's going to cost Citadel a lot more now than if they had just left the old show alone.
Keep rearranging those deck chairs, Citadel - that’ll save the station!
Seems a little suspect that the change is happening mid-week on the same day that Citadel emerges from bankruptcy.
We’re halfway there. Now....bring back Andy!!!
That pic with Andy has been there for over a year. Ann the producer never took it down.
Just got an email saying Fred is back with Bryan and Chris is back at 9.
