Fred Grandy (a.k.a Gopher from "The Love Boat) and Andy Parks are out. FishbowlDC sources have confirmed and DCRTV (www.dcrtv.com) is reporting that WMAL's (630 AM) duo has been fired. Grandy is a former Republican member of Congress.
It won't happen immediately -- their end date is still up in the air. The news has been circulating at the station all day long. Word has it that corporate-wide cuts of the most expensive employees are necessary to save money.
Station manager Paul Duckworth did not return a phone request for comment at FBDC press time.

MY THOUGHTS:
Am I reading that Austin Hill will be on-air for 2 hours (10am-Noon), while Plante will be on-air solo for 1½ hours (8:30am-10am)?
This makes no f*&%ing sense!! As much as I like Hill, Plante should be given ‘first dibs’ on any hypothetical morning schedule or itinerary at WMAL... he’s the only local talent whose fans suffered and acted in unison for months to get him back on-air. After endless e-mails, letters, switchboard calls, fan pages, etc., we the “Plantistas” demand more respect in getting our guy back to a decent and normal morning schedule.
I’ll save my commentary for when the show(s) actually start (and perhaps within a few weeks I’ll make my own analysis of the situation), but we the fans do not like it that Plante is or might be squeezed out of valuable on-air time!

I can already imagine Fred saying every day at 0830: “Let ‘er rip, Chris, I’m outta here.” For me, I’m learning more and more that streaming and iPod and XM are my friends. For instance, John Batchelor comes on at 9PM at AM770, so I can avoid that odious Scarborough. The new line-up at least allows me to stay parked at WMAL in the AM (pun intended: will miss Andy: God speed good buddy!).
Does Andy check out FreeRepublic? If so, let me be the first to tell him how much I enjoyed his contributions over the years. Andy, you were great! I remember you doing traffic reports for Trumbull & Core! Will miss you man!

Yup. I see you’ve already checked out the Facebook group page. It’s for real. The show will be called “Plante & Grandy in the Morning”. So, Plante gets top billing from Fred Grandy.

No one is going to hear it and no one will be tuned in.
Nehman is only as good as he serves as the center left leaning foil to Andy’s common sense conservatism.
I’m guessing that he show will probably only be a reading of the news ticker.

I sent him a thank you before he signed off n Friday and he replied, saying it had been a hoot.
This is radio. There is no making sense of it. Especially at MAL. Although, obviously, this probably has more to do with ad revenue than it does with performance.

Hang tight if you don’t like the lineup. I guarantee that if the deck chairs are not scrambled in 6 to 12 months, then they will be in 12 t0 18.
As soon as you get into a groove with this station, they are certain to change it.
Could NOT possibly dig up Sam Donaldson? Maybe Core returns?? No way to know, but these slots will change and restructure all the time.

I turned on the radio at 5am today to hear Nehman... by himself.
This is the worst Monday of the year.
They don’t need a freaking “Fairness Doctrine”. In recent months whenever Censorship Doctrine was mentioned I would think of getting XM radio... but there is no Andy and Grandy on XM.
Now it doesn’t matter.
Screw ‘em. If they don’t want us to listen then we won’t. At least I won’t have to hear that idiot Huckabee anymore.
It was baaaad this morning. I tuned in and heard Nieman reading schtick for an hour by himself, snoozed, then woke up for about 10 minutes of Plante and Grandy reading stuff, then went back to sleep and had a nightmare their droning voices would not turn off
Buh Bye, WMAL. Nieman, Parks and Grandy was great threesome but the remix is awful.
