People get so caught up in the *past* “north vs south” issue that they fail to see the importance/pertinence of the ~constitutional principles~ of state’s rights vs. federal tyranny and off we go into the wild, blue tangents.
Eventually *somebody* drags us [well, most of us] back to the present reality and peril.
One of the greatest tragedies of the Civil War was to link secession with war. Secession just means leaving an organization. Secession is war/violence neutral. The reaction to it may be violent but the act itself is not.
